NEW YORK (AP) -- New Orleans forward Anthony Davis was chosen Friday to replace the injured Kobe Bryant in the NBA All-Star game that will be played in his home city.

Davis was nearly chosen as a reserve, but missed by one spot in voting by Western Conference head coaches, a person with knowledge of the details told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because vote totals were not released.

The 2012 U.S. Olympian ended up getting into the Feb. 16 game at Smoothie King Center when NBA Commissioner Adam Silver chose him to replace Bryant, who was voted by fans to start but is still recovering from a broken knee.

Davis is averaging 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and a league-leading 3.3 blocks for the Pelicans. Davis, the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft, is also scheduled to play in the Rising Stars Challenge for rookies and second-year players next Friday.

Western Conference coach Scott Brooks of Oklahoma City will decide who replaces Bryant in the starting lineup.

I'm really excited to see him in that game. He's been fantastic this year. As much as I love Dame I think Davis is going to be the #1 player from that class but you can't go wrong with either of them.

He was by far the worst snub in either conference. He's always been a monster on defense, but his offense has looked pretty solid this season as well.

Happy for him, happy for New Orleans. Obviously very deserving.

Chosen by Silver or by Stern? Not that I actually care in this case since he was deserving either way.

Good. Great choice, deserves it, whether it was in NOLA or not.

Good choice imho. The host team should have a player in the game.

Damn you guys still overrate the shit out of Anthony Davis.

20 ppg, 10 rpg, 3 bpg as a second year player is amazing. He is still learning the game and he's only going to get better. How can you underrate him at this point? He's got the highest potential of any young player in the league

I don't agree. I don't think he has the potential to be a superstar on a great team, and that's what everyone else seems to believe. When I watch Davis play, I just don't see it.

The numbers alone though are pretty impressive. Especially when he is really the only big guy they have that demands defensive attention.

Any chance dame or lma starts in place of Kobe? I'm guessing it'll probably harden but who knows...

If it wasn't Scotty brooks id say yes but I think Harden will start and Durant and Harden will both play close to 40m
