OT: Arenas to be charged with felony possession

This is my favorite paragraph from the article:

"Since Arenas first acknowledged keeping guns in his locker, he has publicly employed a "goof ball" defense, claiming he wasn't aware of the law, meant no harm and never takes anything seriously."

Cool, he even has a type of defense (legal defense, that is) named after him. So, in addition to the insanity plea, we now have the "goof ball" plea.

What's next, the "dip shit" defense? I'm sorry your honor. I know my client broke the law, but come on, cut him some slack. It's not his fault he's such a fucking dip shit.

Odd that the instigator in all this, Javaris Crittenton, has not been charged with anything. He started it by stealing money, threatened to beat up Arenas, and brandished a pistol he was carrying on his person. All clearly against the laws of Washington. He could easily be sent away for 10 or more years.

Guess a certain prosecutor is more interested in attaining personal fame than attaining Justice.

I guess I'll withhold complete judgement on this until I know the details of the plea agreement, but this seems like an utterly terrible move.

Because he will be convicted of a felony, I think this gives the Wizards enough justification to void his contract, which I had previously thought unlikely. We'll see if he ends up doing any time over this... I'd expect not, but if he does major time in addition to losing a net of $30-40M dollars, it's possibly the worst plea deal ever.

No shit. You think with $111 million contract, he'd be able to afford a better lawyer.

Give them time,. I'm sure they'll get around to it. The reason they were able to move faster on Agent Zero Common Sense is he admitted publically he violated the law. Crittenton knows enough to keep his mouth shut. Didn't Gil ever watch TV... anything you say can, and will, be used against you in a court of law...

I'd still take Arenas as a Blazer. It would be especially sweet to have him on a one year deal at the mid-level if his contract is terminated.

He's a nut- but can defend, pass and score.
I've always loved tortured artists and Gil stood out for me early on. He is definitely bright, talented and Koo koo for CoCo puffs crazy. I bet he returns with a brand new chip on his shoulder.

When dude is healthy and focused he's a top 10 player. A Blazer??? I wouldn't stand in the way but I really really doubt it

This has got to be the most colossal financial fuck up in all of sports history. I mean, I know Tyson lost a crapload of money. But Arenas stands to lose a hundred million dollars over this. Jesus Christ.

you don't think someone is going to offer him a contract that offsets a large portion of that loss? Dude can still play a bit
