Bargnani's agent, Leon Rose, told ESPN.com on Tuesday night that the Raptors -- who later this week will officially sign Turkoglu away from Orlando -- have reached an agreement in principle on a contract extension for the 7-foot Italian, who was selected No. 1 overall by the Raptors in the 2006 draft.

The deal, according to NBA front-office sources, would span five seasons starting in 2010-11 and earn Bargnani an estimated $50 million.

If Bargs is worth 5years/50million, I have a feeling Aldridge's agent is going to try to get the max.

Hell ya he is a max player if that chump got that!!!!! Uh Oh!

Brandon will be maxed at $14.4m. LaMarcus will get between $11m and 12m. It's the raises I'm interested in.

When Bosh leaves, that organization is going to be screwed.

10 million a year for a 7'0" footer who averages 5 boards a game and who can't guard anybody. Oh, but he has a nice touch . . . better lock him up with a fat contract.

Unbelievable.

I expect to see LMA get 5 years 65-70 million after this. I believe the max is 5 years and 80 million if not more. (I can never remember after they restructured from 6/7 year contracts to 5/6 year contracts in 2005).

This is the same team that just signed Hedo Turkoglu for 5/$53 million. I'll be eternal grateful for that Colangelo signing, by the way.

Wow 50 million for a below average starter with a 14.5 PER, A 7 footer that gets 5 RPG in over 30 minutes, plays bad defense and can't guard any position in the NBA.

It's as if Colangelo thinks paying him big money will make him a better player.

Toronto is going to be a doormat for at least the next half-decade.

David Lee and Paul Millsap should get at least $100 million.

Hey, congrats to LaMarcus for making at least a couple extra mil per due to Toronto's stupidity. LA should send Colangelo flowers, a fruit basket or something.

He played well for half a season, but his PER is still garbage. $10 mil for him is overpaying.

Still not a "chump", I'd say 8 mil is over paying, but he's still a good player. I kinda wonder at BC's decision to do this now as opposed to later in the off-season.

$10m a year for Bargs?

He's a 7'1" Jason Kapono. Unbelievable.

So, is Toronto trying to screw themselves up or something?

Look at it this way - would a long, acrimonious negotiation with Bargs have helped them keep Bosh? If they can con Bosh into believing that this (and the Hedo signing) represent a team willing to spend money to win, it could be worth it.

It's a huge gamble on a symbolic gesture....but what else have they got?

Bargs came on pretty strong in the 2nd half of last season. But 5 years 50 million is way too much for Bargs. I'd say 7 million is a fair number. 10 million is disgusting for him.

Did Isiah Thomas negotiate this extension?

That's whack! Bryan Colangelo is putting them into luxury tax territory - before they even extend Bosh. For what? It's not like they are going to be contending for a championship. Hell, they'll be lucky to make the play-offs. Perhaps Colangelo hasn't heard - defense and rebounding win games. Toronto lacks both - big time.

So, next summer Bosh leaves and they are now stuck with TWO big contracts for four more years that will hinder their re-building effort. What the hell is he thinking?

BNM

That's a lot of money for a stiff that can barely play. No WONDER Toronto can't get anywhere in the playoffs.

I love the irony of a fanbase that consistently complains that outsiders unfairly criticize their first overall pick without watching him play, only to do the same to another.

Don't mean to throw this label at everyone, but far too many people judge Bargnani without watching him consistently or even understanding his development path up to this point.

Bargnani can score 20 a game.

What Bargnani did do is score 15 PPG on the 3rd worst team in the east.

Ricky Davis averaged 20ppg but I wouldn't give him a $50 million contract nor call him a good NBA player.

Maybe he wants to ensure they REALLY suck for those next four years and can get some good draft picks!
