VIDEO: Brandon Roy At The Jamal Crawford Summer Pro-Am League

by Kevin Cacabelos • Jul 21, 2012 7:00 PM PDT

Brandon Roy made a rare appearance at the Jamal Crawford Summer Pro-Am League on Saturday afternoon. This marked Roy's first public appearance playing competitive basketball since he announced his comeback to the NBA and signed a contract with the Minnesota Timberwovles.

While he was clearly not playing at full effort like mostly everyone else on the court, here are some observations on his performance:

  • Roy looked a step or two slower than the other NBA players on the floor; Isaiah Thomas and Martell Webster. He is still picking up the speed of the game, but even though he's a little slower right now, he was still effective on offense.
  • This does not show up in the video, but in the first half, Roy made a classic drive off a screen from Mike Jensen and then whipped a one-handed pass to a rolling Jensen. Without a doubt, he still has superior vision and a high basketball IQ even if he does not regain his explosiveness.
  • Roy made a concentrated effort to have the ball in his hands on every offensive possession. He was his team's point guard and the offense went through him in more than 90% of his team's possessions.
  • Roy needs some work on his jumper. While getting into the lane has been his strength throughout his career, he will have to be deadly from outside to keep his defenders honest. Thomas and Webster were the better shooters in the game.

I still can't believe Kahn signed this guy for $5m this next season. That did happen, right? I LUURRRVVVEEE BRoy, as you all know, but wow. What a terrible contract.

24 days since turning 18?

Weird avatar. Good luck with it.

Well, the avatar is a little odd, but she's fucking hot. Hapas ftw!

But on the topic of the actual video, the most shocking thing was the Mike Jensen sighting. I didn't think I'd ever see him play basketball again.

Where'd the avatar go...... I want to see her. Man I miss Brandon!

Google her, Rosa Kato.

We all miss Brandon. I thought I was going to get to root for him for at least 15 years (4 at UW plus his NBA career).

Kinda sad to see our former star playing against these YMCA guys. And yeah, Fez, bring back your avatar!

Oh, I see, a little asian girl. I read a story about a guy who got arrested in a south American country after they found videos of a porn actress named "Little Lupe", she's a petite young looking porn star, and she looked so young that the authorities thought she was under-age. At the trail, some "expert" even testified to that, but he was let off the hook after she actually flew in to testify in person.

Did the person sue? That would be traumatizing.

Well, she's not that young looking. When my wife was an intern while in law school (so roughly the same age and she's also hapa) she went to get a bus pass and they asked her if she wanted a student pass, which was 17 and under.

What I do is I go to flickr.com and type in Portland/Portland downtown/Portland Pearl, etc. and then click 'recent' on the left side of the page.

It's a treasure trove.

Suddenly this board is exploring ways around posting underage women as avatars.

Um, no thanks, pervs.

Whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean. She's 24 in that avy, nearly 30 today.

:edit:

I'm just going to leave it at that.

Maybe now is not the best time to admit I just bought the Best of Bow Wow Wow album. :devilwink:

BTW, Roy plays like he's 45 in that video.

The way he changed directions and his "first step" gave me flashbacks of Steve Smith.

Even amateurs are able to slide in front of him on drives now.

So if Roy re-retires, do the Blazers get any of that insurance money back? Same thing happened with Darius Miles, and it screwed the Blazers over.....

Even if she was under 18, it's not like the avatar was suggestive, inappropriate or even dirty.

I think it suggests more about the person complaining than it did the person who had it as their avatar.

That's a good question. Common sense says, yes, but I guess it comes down to the wording in the insurance rider.
