(OT) Bynum might get suspended for game vs. POR

The bigger problem here is that Bynum has no fear of on-court retaliation. In the pre-Tomjanovich days, if you hit someone like that, the other teams enforcer would come after you or go after your star player. Now, you have to leave it up to officials who are beholden to Stern.

I prefer the old way.

exactly my thoughts. This isn't football where it's okay to intend to hurt the ball carrier. If this were the playoffs I could understand a little... but this is the Lakers at home vs the pathetic Timberwolves.

The league has to protect their athletes from BS cheap shots like that with a clear message. The way Beasley was upended and fell reminded me of the Ariza breakaway foul on Rudy who required mere back surgery and hasn't really been the same since. Dude came pretty close to cracking his head open on the floor from a 8-9' free fall. I'd support more then a 1 game suspension for stuff like this... hell if the player is seriously hurt to the point they miss games, keep the offending player out as long.

While my feeling on this would be the same if the foul was committed by a Blazer or anyone else, seeing Kobe lobbying the officials after words and hearing the Laker fans cheer Bynum as he heads to the tunnel following his ejection, just adds to the disgust for the purple and piss.

Unfortunately that just makes me hate them all the more. I say unfortunately because I would defiantly be upset with any team (even the blazers) if there star player did the same thing after a player was ejected for that type of play but there are only two teams that it would really make me hate even more and that's the Lakers or Celtics. It just reiterates the stereotypes i'v put into my head of those two teams and it makes me feel pretty bad that I get so into a game that I'v actually stereotyped two teams to the point that nothing they do will make me have any respect for those teams.

im shocked that nobody came to beasleys defense, might tell you a little about the wolves chemistry...you would think at least one guy would have got in someones face there

I bet the league office won't do anything until Monday.

Stern don't work on weekends.

The only one getting in anyone's face was Odom standing in the middle of the Wolves players acting tough and defiant and daring anyone to do anything about it. I despise that guy.

If they had done that to LA, our boys would have gone nuts!

agreed, at least a towel waver come off the bench and pop him in the nose for gods sake

whos our enforcer now that joels gone?

What a dick. Check the look on his face after Beasley hits the ground.

I mean, I understand it because they're pricks, but I don't understand the Lakers right after that foul. You look at the immediate aftermath and you see Odom stand right over him, Barnes talking shit immediately. You see Blake, BLAKE, walk up to the circle trying to look tough. And Brown as well. It's not like all of those guys had to because Minny players jumped to Beasley's defense. But they all walk over. Bitches. I wish Pekovic just started landing haymakers all around. Now I'm sure Beasley was talking shit the whole game,a nd probably was half way down as well. Still.

Beasley was the one T'd up following that play... & he had to leave the game for x-rays

I'm pretty sure knowing Beasley he said something in the aftermath that deserved him getting T'd up.

Of course, there was a somewhat similar reaction by Blake Griffin the other day on Tony Battie, even pushing a ref, and I doubt Griffin got a T. Though I don't know for sure, and am right now too lazy to go look, sorry.

so the end results of a dangerous cheap shot by a Laker is both teams lose a player for the rest of the game and Minnesota gets 2 FTs to LA's 1

does that seem reasonable?

And Minny gets the ball. Reasonable? Maybe not. But if Beasley hops up and says I'll kick your mother fucking ass you fat tub of goo, is that not T worthy?

beasley might have deserved the t, no question, the argument here is that bynum should be suspended to hopefully have him think twice in the future before endangering someones career

I don't have a problem with MB getting a T if he earned one but I also completely understand why someone might react that way to a dangerous cheap shot like the one he received. I don't feel getting kicked out of a game is much of a deterrent for this sort of play that in all likelyhood (and in this case) removes the fouled player from the game as well. So no, not reasonable.

If Bynum doesn't receive further punishment for his action (suspension & loss of pay) I see little reason besides human decency not to lay out players when ever they drive to the hoop. It follows that teams should bring on a goon specifically to do this. Maybe the Blazers should spend a 2nd rounder on the guy in my avatar to guard the hoop?

I agree he should be suspended. However, since he's done this sort of thing in the past, doubt it makes him think twice.

I'm in agreement that he should be suspended. But that doesn't change the situation in the specific game. Even without the T, is two shots and the ball somehow more reasonable than 1 net shot and the ball? Not really. It's a shitty situation.

Luuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuke!!!

It was a very cheap shot. it was a frustration play by Bynum and he could have seriously hurt the dude. Aside from the fact their next game is against the Blazers, he deserves to be suspended. Even the Laker announcers were criticizing him.

This might surprise you since you listen to Mike Rice, but not every journalist is a rabid idiotic homer.

has he been suspended before?

No, the league doesn't suspend Lakers. If people ever found out that the NBA shows extreme favoritism to the Lakers they would lose A TON of money! Who would support a fixed product? Luckily none of us are that smart.

I admit they are pretty good anouncers. Much better than most. And I am sure they would agree that Bynum is an extremely immature for someone who has been in the league for 6 years. Suspend his ass. Although I think the Lakers play better without him.

I can tell you're going to be around a long time.

this laker troll has an interesting knowledge of blazer basketball...a mike rice reference? sounds like a blazer fan just made an account to fuck with us, dont let him

About 15 years ago? I invested in NBA league pass. Mike Rice is the color guy right? At least the play-by-play guy doesn't act like the typical anti-Laker pro-Blazer everything Portland resident. I actually enjoy watching this current Blazer team because of Camby, Miller and Wallace.

BTW did you know that that geek Pete Priancana (sp?) is still employed? He does Grizzlies games.

Maybe if the Lakers didn't coddle him like they did Kobe when he was the same age he would have a different mindset.
