http://www.slamonline.com/online/nb...to-become-a-free-agent-to-win-a-championship/

It’s basically a foregone conclusion that Carmelo Anthony will be a free agent this summer, and the New York Knicks superstar says that if that’s the route that leads him to his first NBA title, then so be it. Per Basketball Insiders:

Melo on Sportscenter: "I want to win a championship. If I have to become a free agent in order to do that, then that's what I have to do."

Melo also did say that he felt he could help attract other free agents to NY by becoming a free agent...

Melo also intimated that money wouldn't be the most important factor: "I've made plenty of money, enough that I could retire right now..."

If he is serious about becoming a FA and finding someplace to win rings then I believe there is no better situation in the league than Portland for him. The Knicks should really consider moving him while they can and get some good value back for him. Nicolas + Wes for Melo gets the Knicks some young talent and more consistency from the SG spot. A starting 5 of Dame, CJ, Melo, LMA & Lopez would be unguardable. 3 elite offensive talents and a guy who might become one in CJ. You can't double anyone or one of those 4 will make you pay dearly. The defense would be bad but it honestly can't be much worse than it is now.

So we become the Mavs of old. Wait, how many rings did they win?

Make the trade Neil

Carmelo has his faults, but I think the potential reward is worth the risk. He can be that good.

The current group the Blazers have just isn't good enough. I don't think Wes and Nic get the job done.

I'd be ecstatic to win 1 championship and make it to another Finals within 5 years like they did. Wouldn't you? Do you think the current team has a higher ceiling than that?

Fuck no. If Melo wants a ring, he's going to need to do more than take a pay cut.

I'd sell my firstborn for 1 ring. thats all I need in my life and I would be happy!

Nicolas + Wes for Melo
First off, I hate the idea of trading for Melo. But for the sake of conversation, the combination of Nic/Wes is greater than the individual efforts of Melo. You've gotta keep one of the two (Nic/Wes). A backcourt of Dame/CJ would be disastrous, especially when your forwards are Melo/LMA. You think our defense is shit now - teams would be hanging 120ppg on us every single night!
A better trade - for both teams - would be Nic/CJ/filler for Melo.

i didn't think of CJ but if we could deal him instead of Wes I would be happier as well. This would definitely put us in win now mode and wes would be a bigger help to that than CJ would be.

I just realized Carmelo turns 30 in May

That's certainly a factor

If that scumbag comes to Portland, I will actively root against the team until he is gone.

I would be ecstatic too. I am just thinking Melo might want to join a team that plays better defense with the thought that it is more likely to end up in a ring.

Like I said a couple days ago in a different thread. If most Blazer fans could go back in time and if it where possible, We wouldn't even trade Kevin Duck worth & Terry Porter for Isaiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer because we didn't like there character. Wes and Batum for Mello would be a similar situation.:MARIS61:

Who wouldn't trade for Bill Laimbeer? That guy was pure gold entertainment every game!

It's cute that you think Melo is serious. It's called being PC.

You read it entirely wrong. Anthony said he'd stay in New York as a FA in order to create cap space to attract other players.

Make what trade? He said he'll opt out after this season. You want to give up Wes/Nic so Anthony can sign with the Knicks for a 1-year MLE?

LOL

This place is becoming unreadable.

You still have an issue with depth. Obviously it's something you can address in the off season.

I was opposed of the deal that would have sent Buck and I believe Jerome to Philadelphia for Barkley.

Yep people didn't want that deal because they where worried about ruining the starting five and Jerome was a fan favorite.
