OT: Chewing straws against NBA rules?!

Straws tear down the very image that David Stern has tried so hard to build up.

Maybe because of the endorsement deal with Juicy Fruit?

lmao I do this after ever straw I have.. my wife HATES this.

The farmers collective and the Citizens for a green America group are behind the rule, no doubt about it. I think the NBA has a "chew hay" campaign that will start in earnest real soon, part of "NBA Cares" about the environment.

If you are going to chew straws, do it with organic, good for the environment straws.

They probably don't want a player to choke on one during a game.

The NBA should also call Gerald Wallace and tell him to keep his mouth piece in his mouth! That dude has that thing hanging out and chews on it far more than he has it actually in his mouth.

On PTI, Wilbon said a league source said they aren't worried about the players choking, moreso that children might copy it and they are more likely to choke.

Is there a rule against chewing hot dogs on the court?

It seems perfectly legit for the NBA to limit the foreign items that come on the floor during gameplay, whether they are in a player's mouth or not.

They should ban the entire Mavs team. They are notorious for choking.

Next time, I am going to offer a bucket of pixie sticks to a player.

On the court - the rule makes some sense. For players on the bench, it is just plain dumb. Micro-management for its' own sake.

I honestly believe Stern is mentally ill.

what the fuck? why chew on a straw?

It is probably something to do with drugs, or a drug reference, I don't know. But this is pretty sad, even for the NBA.

That sums it up for me, too. Stern always justifies his punitive personality with the claim that he's looking out for the league's reputation, but this is the final straw.
