I have been growing increasingly uncomfortable with the bloodlust that is occuring over this incident. The guy is pretty obviously a prick, but the last I checked, that wasn't against the law. The NBA could force him out, depending on their bylaws, but I don't think the talking heads will be satisfied until he has been completely devoured.

This is how I see it... The owners will vote to force him to sell because they are publicly being pressured. Then Sterling will most likely start the "anti-trust" lawsuit, stating that he cannot be forced to sell unless he was doing illegal acts or losing money. Neither are the case. I think the total asking price will be $1.2 billion with punitive damages by the "tax hit" and not being a part of the selling process.

So as much as I agree that Stern is a douché and I'm glad he's out of the NBA, he's going to rape the other owners on his way out.

Now there is another way of doing things... I think Adam Silver should allow Sterling to transfer ownership to his children and go through the approval process. Giving Sterling some sort of "due process" and ability to save money in capital gains, can take away a large liability and "anti-trust" lawsuit in the future.

When you listen to fools, the mob rules.

Professional hypersensitivity FTW.

The interesting thing to me, is that he's a lame duck owner. He has no power. He can't be involved in any way, shape, or form with the basketball operations. So what good is retaining ownership?

I think he understands that it would be impossible for Sterling to have any say or re-admittance back into the NBA, but Silver made it perfectly clear that the ban was only on him. This was when a question was asked if Sterling could transfer ownership to his wife.

But, Sterling has a case if they don't allow him an exit strategy that doesn't cost him millions of dollars. The NBA and the owners can be on the hook for that.

The elephant in the room: is Sterling even mentally competent? Is this bigotry, eccentricity or dementia?

If Sterling fights his ouster from the NBA, he could be setting himself up to lose control of his entire empire. His family might well go all out to help the NBA prove his incompetence.

He's a lawyer. He knows how to play the game. If I were Sterling, I'd punish my enemies by dragging this out for years in the courts.

Kind of how I punish everyone on this board. There is pleasure in making others cuss your name.

Donald has already been convicted in the court of public opinion and I'm sure they'd let him know about it if he attended any more games. He's ostracized from the NBA community, so he might sell anyway. But now that the NBA is trying to force him out, he wants to fight back.

I think a public rebuke by the NBA and it's owners should have been enough. He's going to be punished in social ways for his comments.

Link? He has never been convicted...

New article on SI says he wasn't banned from games, just from all message boards.

I liken it to finally arresting a gangster on tax evasion charges. Yeah it's the least offensive of the actual offenses, but you finally got him on something concrete enough that you can put his ass in jail.

That said, Kareem has the best take on the whole thing.

Are you saying that Sterling has been involved in murder/graft/bribing/spousal abuse?

If he is he should release a rap album, dude has some serious street cred.

Donald Sterling's almost-lifetime achievement award from the NAACP just forced the president of the group's L.A. chapter to quit -- and TMZ Sports has learned he basically got outta Dodge before he was kicked out.

Leon Jenkins quit his post Thursday evening ... 6 days after we first posted Sterling's racist rant -- putting Jenkins in the embarrassing position of explaining -- to the public and NAACP members -- why the group was weeks away from handing Sterling a SECOND lifetime achievement award.

Jenkins said he was quitting in order to separate the org from the "negative exposure I have caused the NAACP." But one NAACP source put it differently, telling us ... "He knew we were coming for him and we were gonna get him out of there, so he resigned."

Truth is ... even if we hadn't posted the recording -- Sterling was a ridiculous choice. He'd already faced THREE messy and public discrimination lawsuits -- two from the Feds, and one from ex-Clippers GM Elgin Baylor.

Naah, easier to just start 2 eternal torture wars to avenge her father's reputation!

He's been diagnosed with cancer. Don't think he won't use it to make his case.

1%ers deserve more tax breaks for their conservation. Here's how one conserves basketballs on his yachts.

I bet that ball chaser is well paid. Why do you hate the little guy trying to make a living?

Phone T. Boone Pickens cause he knows how to take over Paul's yacht!

Donald Sterling is battling cancer, sources tell the New York Post.

“People have been predicting his imminent demise. I’m sure he has the best . . . drugs money can buy,” said the source, who works closely with pro sports teams. “He can do anything to keep himself alive.”

The source said that some of the medication the 80-year-old Sterling is taking is responsible for the puffy appearance in his face.

Another source said Sterling is suffering from prostate cancer.

Sterling was banned for life by the NBA this week.

“He’s calling everyone, saying: ‘Tell me I’m not a racist,’ ” a source said.

Sterling was in negotiations to be interviewed by Barbara Walters on ABC.

Sterling has been holed up in the penthouse atop a nearly-empty office building he owns in Beverly Hills since the tape surfaced.

So I guess his suspension won't be as long as initially thought...

This whole thing is just beginning. We will see this summer. Correct me if I'm wrong but as of now Sterling does still own the team doesn't he? I mean it hasn't been sold or anything and don't they still need to votes from the other owners?

We should all feel bad for sterling, he has a pretty serious case of affluenza...

He's the thing that trips me out. Okay since Sterling is still owner of the team, what happens on draft day? During free agency? I know he can't make decisions, but the slippery slope is, what if the decision to keep a player or draft another is a bad decision? I know if you don't have voting interest in a company, they are still liable for losing you money.

My post from 4/29 in the "It's so annoying" thread:

"And in the end I think Sterling either goes into rehab or starts treatment for an previously unknown condition that affects memory or behavior (i.e. dementia, bipolar disorder, etc.). His family will take over conservatorship (or whatever you call it) and everything will go back to normal with the Clippers after they pay a huge fine. This is nothing new for Sterling or his organization."

Boom! There it is. :devilwink:

Not to fear. I vote we volunteer Steve Patterson to temporarily run the team with John Nash as his GM.

You completely missed what I'm saying. A lifetime ban for a healthy 80+ year old is a longer ban than that of an 80+ year old who has been battling prostate cancer for some time.
