Rarely does a talented player turn around being a shithead to being a leader. Something switched for Zach in the last two years, and I only wish he could have been that player in Portland.

Chris Wallace is a genius for re-signing him.

Love seeing Z-Bo play this well. He's done some really stupid things in his life and to the outside world it looks like he has turned things around, hopefully he keeps it up.

I do not think ZBo has changed as much as it would appear. I think Memphis is just a really good fit for him. The media is not going out of its way to find drama and their fanbase could probably care less about his offcourt actions. They were playing "Whoop that Trick" during the intermission last night.

His play has improved and they have been able to put a team around him. Kudos.

Z-Bo for Channing Frye......

I'm glad he has blossomed into a leader, and he still has (by far) the best low-post game in the NBA.

Oh come on now. Zach's Hoop Family is still directly involved in a murder in Portland, and got away with a gang rape downtown. You're not that out of the loop. Ask my man Curtis about it, and how he can't get another club managing job because of those shitheads....

He was that player in Portland. Back when he had good teammates here. Let me take you back in time.....

2003 NBA Playoffs

Blazers trail Mavs 0-3

Cheeks inserts Zach Randolph into the starting lineup

Blazers win Game 4. Randolph has 25 points and 14 rebounds

Blazers win Game 5. *Randolph has 22 points and 9 rebounds
http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/200304300DAL.html

Blazers win Game 6. *Randolph has 21 points and 10 rebounds

Blazers sadly lose Game 7. *Randolph has 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists (maybe he passed too much)

It sucks we lost the series, but we were 3-1 with him as a starter. *He was a great player then, he's a great player now.

He does. I can't think of anybody better at this point. Duncan is going to have to bring it for 7 games.

Hahahaha that's a great song! Good movie.

PDX ----> to NY
NY -----> to Clippers
Clips ---> to Memphis

It took 3 cross country moves to finally shake the Hoops Family.

Funny how Roy supposedly went to the FO and demanded that Z-Bo be sent off the team. Who would have known that Z-Bo would have a longer career.....

ZBO ruined two other teams before Memphis too, though. At least he got the Clips Blake Griffin, though.

Is that even known for sure? NYK and LAC both shipped Zach's ass out, too, for pennies on the dollar.

Yes.

Two years ago, late in Brandon Roy’s rookie year, the Portland Trail Blazers lost yet another game. Zach Randolph went on a rant in the locker room afterward, calling out teammates, pointing fingers, telling other players they weren’t pulling their weight.

Roy told Randolph to sit down and shut up. The next day, he went to see Portland general manager Kevin Pritchard and told him to get rid of Randolph.

"We can’t win with this guy," said Roy, in so many words.

Pritchard dealt Randolph to Isiah Thomas’s New York Knicks that offseason. Now the Knicks are trying to find a sucker to help them rectify Thomas’s mistake.

I don't think Z-Bo would be who he is today if he would have stayed in Portland, but still.

Where's 'your man' Curtis so I can ask him?

Both those two teams were already ruined. They were awful and poorly run and there was no way he could've helped them. And he didn't cost them anything. He didn't ruin anything.

Cuz they were terrible organizations making terrible decisions. Let me take you back to 2003 when he had good teammates.....

Speed, what you're leaving out is the change in his style of play. That Zach was a guy who didn't stray from the low post and who feasted on putbacks. His game was predicated on cleaning up scraps. He may not have been the most natural defender, but he tried. He especially had a nose on the defensive boards.

The Zach we traded fell in love with the three and often wouldn't cross half court if he thought the other team was on a break. He went from "Z-Bo" to "Me-Bo".

Zach would have been a great second or third option; the kind of player you didn't call plays for. We had so little talent on those teams, he had to be our first option and it ruined his game.

Has a player ever flourished under McMillan more so than another coach he played for with the exception or Roy and that was because of injury

Sadly, that's not true. The Zach Randolph (06/07) that we traded had just had his career best 22.8 PER which he has NOT topped in Memphis. He had averaged a 24 ppg and 10 rpg. We were a team on the rise. With Roy and others about to improve, we were bound to be a playoff team in 2008 and win when we got there. People forget how great Zach was that year (cuz he finally had good teammates to play with again). Zach's last season with Portland was his BEST as a pro:

Truth.

The advanced stats will make you weep:

We traded one of the best players in the NBA (06-07) for Channing Frye and Steve Francis. We threw him away like trash to a crappy team who threw him to another crappy team. Once he was finally on a stable team again, back came his game and he started winning again.

And he was a fantastic number one option. Not a third or fourth wheel. Look at the numbers. They will stun you and reveal the truth. He had a few bad years because he was playing with Telfair and Khryapa. AND was covering from MICROFRACTURE KNEE SURGERY. But when we added Roy and Aldridge and he had had time to recover, he played the best ball of his career. And we threw him away for nothing.

Big.

Fucking.

Mistake.

Zach getting traded away multiple times like a throw-in is surely just a coincidence

Not.

Look at the numbers. Career best 22.8 PER in 06-07. 24/10. We were too anxious to move Aldridge to starting PF and thought with Oden , we could afford to do that so we rushed to trade him to Isiah Thomas whose team was awful. Then he got tossed to another awful team. Once a good team picked him up, he was back on track, but look at the numbers. He was GREAT for us in 06-07 and we had improved our record by 11 wins. And he was fully recovered from MF surgery and playing at the top of his game. The stories people tell about Zach aren't true. I remember that it was gospel in here that no team that started Randolph would ever reach the playoffs let alone win there. Now that he has, people are changing their tune to "he reformed!". He has ALWAYS been a winner when playing with good teams. the BEST year of his career (06-07) was with Portland

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/randoza01.html

If we had kept Randolph, he would've continued to play at that level and we'd be a better team today.
