He'd be worth the risk. I don't think a vet like Camby would let DeMarcus get away with that kind of attitude.
 
what would it cost to get him though?

I'd take the risk, but doubt they move him for what we'd likely give up.
 
I've thought for a while that Cousins was Derrick Coleman II: ridiculous talent, sorry attitude. And it might be that, like Coleman, who was actually a smart, thoughtful guy, he won't respect coaches that just give him shit.

BUT: whatever Westphal (for whom I have even less respect than Cousins) thinks, Petrie is not going to trade Cousins any time soon. (And remember: Joakim Noah was fined by his team in his rookie year, and the players voted to INCREASE the fine! And yet Chicago didn't turn around and dump him, and are glad they didn't.)

If we're after talented headcases that are in trouble with their teams, I'm much more interested in Terrence Williams. And there's a double Blazer-connection: he grew up living opposite Brandon Roy, and he trained with Nate's ex-teammate Gary Payton before the draft. I see T-Will as the nearest thing to a young Ron Artest, with all the good and bad that entails.
 
Gee, who couldn't see this meltdown from Cousins coming (except for much of S2 at draft time).

Hopefully he learns from being kicked out of practice, but I doubt it. Knuckleheads never learn...

Hard to say. Jermaine was a nice kid, but there were plenty of stories from his first 3 seasons about him being a pain to his coaches. It took being traded to make him grow up. (and make the team look foolish for dealing him)
 
Cousins has always been a knucklehead. Its the reason why he dropped so far in the draft. Many thought that talent-wise he was worthy of a #2 pick. Unfortunately, sometimes being a knucklehead can get in the way of being a good player. I don't think Cousins will ever amount to anything other than a decent starter.

Jermaine O'Neal is a footnote in NBA history. He had one season with a PER over 22 and four seasons total with a PER over 20.

He was a very solid #17 pick, but he never helped a team win anything as a key player.

He seemed to be a pretty solid defender though, which wouldn't be reflected in that metric. He's not a Superstar or anything though, you're right there.

Thats the problem I have with a lot of trade scenarios. Its seems like we don't have the trading chips we once had. You give up Miller's expiring contract and were fucked at PG for the time being.
 
Sacramento is looking for a PG so they can move Evans to SG full time. They would also need a center to replace Cousins.

While Cousins does have an attitude, he also has a lot of something we need more of. Nastyness. He is big. He can set a mean pick. He is agressive. He actually has a decent handle.

Right now though he is also very young, and foul prone. But my guess is he will be a force to reckon with at center for a large part of his career. I could easily see him being a Kevin Duckworth quality center. But you have to plan on him maturing at some point to make it to that level. His overall talent level is already very high. He just needs somebody to figure out how to focus it.
 
I'd take a shot on him. I'm always willing to take big risks for a possible high reward. Like others, I don't know what Portland offers that gets it done. Oden? You take our risk, we take yours? Though, Cousins is a far cheaper (money-wise) risk, so I doubt the Kings go for that.
 
Here's another player who might be available: Dejuan Blair. Of course, what with the ironic fact that our doctors forbade us to draft him because of his KNEES, I dunno if the braintrust would want the risk. (Why do I think he's available? I just read somewhere how he doesn't play much because he doesn't work next to Duncan.) I wonder if the Spurs would go for Rudy-for-Blair? To tie it in to the topic of this thread, you could imagine a three-way. But I really don't think Sacto is going to trade Cousins. They're not going to resign Dalembert, but while they've got him they can use him to teach Cousins a lesson.
 
Young good big men are so easy to get also. Maybe we could send the rights to Freeland for him.

I agree, Portland isn't in a position to be refusing this kind of talent. If they can acquire him they should, of course the Kings actually giving him away is another matter.
 
I think it's clear that he's got maturity issues... whether they will be permanent or not is the question.

Actually, the MAIN question is the cost of acquisition. I doubt we'd be willing to pay as much as Sacramento would be wanting. It's simply too soon to dump a lottery pick that's showed so much potential in his short time with the team.

I agree: I just don't think Petrie is going to second-guess himself this quickly. He knew all the risks, and you might argue that he hedged against them by acquiring Dalembert. He just isn't going to trade Cousins.

Ha! I forgot he was also kicked out of practice just a few months into his career.

Even with that I think with a center starved team like Portland and the lack of centers available via trade or draft (for at least the next three years) I think you have to make a push for DeMarcus.
