OT: George Karl out as Denver coach

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA 5m
Denver has parted ways with coach George Karl, league source tells Yahoo! Sports.

Interesting. Wonder how this affects their offseason.

Re: OT: George Karl out as Denver coach

I bet it's for health reasons.

Denver believes it can attract an elite coach with its roster; simply didn't want to deal with an unhappy Karl in final year of contract.

That's actually a good move for them. Karl is a notorious reg season success and terrible post season coach. They should feel blessed!

One source close to process says "trade" between Denver and Memphis is now conceivable where Karl takes over Grizz and Hollins joins Nuggets

My first thought is that Karl was known to dislike McGee. Perhaps this means that Koufos and/or Mosgov are more available now than they were.

Good decision. Karl played a pretty big role in them losing to GS even when they had HCA. Lots of front office and coaching turnover this summer. If we play our cards right, we can jump out to a good record when all these other teams are still acclimating to new philosophies and systems.

smh RT @ramonashelburne: Denver management had several issues with Karl, one of which was his reluctance to play JaVale McGee more.

I doubt we'd be able to get McGee then, they'll probably want to see how a new coach handles him before trading him.

Good, he is a very overrated player because of good advance stats.

I'm not a big fan of him either, but bringing him in would have been more exciting than Dalembert/Kaman/etc.

Why's Denver so cheap?

Watching the Nuggets try to play defense would be a hoot.

I can't say I've watched much of Denver, and I think Karl is a good coach, but I think maybe it was time for a new face. He's actually been there for a while.

It would be ironic if both teams do worse after trading coaches. And I love irony.

Re: OT: George Karl out as Denver coach

@KennethFaried35: So we lost a GM now a coach what's next!?

The brand new Executive of the Year and Coach of the Year. A record. When the Sonics fired brand new EotY Bob Whitsitt, they didn't fire Karl.

My first thought is that Karl was known to dislike McGee. Perhaps this means that Koufos and/or Mosgov are more available now than they were.

Best post so far. Those two are now in line for reduced minutes, to increase McGee's. Then follow irrational posts about McGee becoming more available.

Until you rep my brilliance, your praise is nothing but empty words.

Saying you're the best of the worst isn't praise. If I ever repped anyone, I'd consider you right now before laughing it off, so hold up your chins and feel proud.

With "veterans" like crybaby Andre Miller, I'm sure Karl is glad to be gone.

This idiot thinks he should be starting over Ty Lawson. Hahaha!

Plus, no wonder the team flamed out against GS, when Miller had already thrown in the towel before the All-Star break.

Oops.

From the Colorado Springs Gazette:

“I want more minutes,” Miller said. “If we were losing I would really be complaining. But it's going as it goes.”

"I don't know how much longer they want me here. I definitely would like to contribute more,” Miller added when I asked if he wants to finish in Denver. “I'm not just going to sit back and settle in and be a backup and let my career just fade away. I'm competitive in that way."

So there's that, which is fun.

Miller also took shots at his team's ability to really contend, despite an eight-game winning streak and a stellar record since mid-December.

“You can't win a championship. I don't even think you can even advance in the playoffs without that marquee player.”

"I think we have enough here to play well during the (regular) season,” Miller said. “The goal right now is to position ourselves for homecourt advantage (in the playoffs). Maybe that will help; I'm not sure. But we'll have to play a lot smarter.

Looks like he nailed that pretty good, lol.
