Derek Fischer was playing for Dallas earlier this year, then asked them to release him because of a knee problem. Now that his knee is good again, does he rejoin Dallas? No, he signs a deal with OKC!!! As he puts it, he thinks he deserves a chance to win his sixth championship ring.

This guy is a major jerk, and I'll be rooting extra hard against the Thunder now that he is there.

Dallas didn't have to release him...

Lame. Wants more rings but doesn't want to work for them

Derek Fisher has always been one of my least favorite players in the NBA. I HATE HIM I HATE HIM I HATE HIM

Well there is a great cancer treatment center in OKC.

There's already a thread on this. But Derek Fisher hate is worthy of two threads.

Dallas didn't have to release him...

Dallas actually released him back in December, at Fisher's request. After the injury, he told them:

Derek Scumbag said:
"In Tuesday's game against Philadelphia, I suffered an injury to my patellar tendon. The recovery time will be approximately two weeks. With this news and the difficulty I have been having being away from my family, I have asked the organization to waive me so I can return home."

What Mark Cuban didn't realize is that to Derek Fisher home means: wherever I have the best chance of winning a ring with the least amount of effort; and family means: teammates whose coattails I can ride.

BTW, when is Mark Cuban going to wise up and realize signing ex-Lakers is a big mistake. First Lamar Odom and now Derek Fisher. All former Lakers come with a huge sense of entitlement that prevents them being loyal to anyone but themselves. Sure, they'll sign the contracts and take Cuban's money - until something better comes along.

He's not a scumbag, he's an opportunist.

I don't understand why anyone would want him on their team any more anyways. Dallas wins by him going to OKC.

Sessions is the only exception. Good for him.

I've stated this before, but he's the guy in the league I hate the most....freshman year he was shooting around at my college and him and his trainer kicked me off the student court to work on shit. fuck him.

You coulda been a contenduh!
(famous Marlon Brando line)

I'd hate him too!

Let's go kick his ass right now!

I hope his daughter is doing fine and gets the best care possible, but I always thought it was weird that when he got out of his Utah deal, he went to the Lakers instead of Memphis. Not only is he from the area, but Memphis has maybe the premier children's cancer hospital in the country, St. Jude's. Yet somehow he winds up playing in LA...? It always seemed very disingenuous to me.

Well, clearly had the best care in the world as she was cured just a few months later of the cancer.

yeah...he used his daughter's sob story as a pawn. totally did.

If I were Cuban I'd still be blasting Lamar Odom in the media. Cuban withheld Don Nelson's pay and Nelson sued him, so why didn't Cuban do the same with Odom? And Fisher. Why is Cuban such a softy about Lakers?

Cuban finally says something. It's very mild. I hope he says a lot more.

Well, it's not like it was a meaningful player that "jilted" the Mav's. Let's be honest, Fisher is pretty useless at this point. Hell, he was pretty useless in his last few years with the Lakers. He just got the benefits that come along with being apart of those Laker squads. If he and Chucky Atkins switched careers, no one would know the difference, except for the name on the front of the jersey.

Somebody should tell him that even though OKC is West of Dallas, it's 67 miles farther from home (Los Angeles).

Has he given his daughter a job with the Players' Union yet?

First of all, it's "Fisher".
Second, who's the victim here? Every time Fisher has left a team, it's been by mutual agreement, and his contract has been annulled. I like Cuban's sarcasm, but I'm not going to feel sorry for him. He needs to stop trying to get a touch of that ol' Laker magic.
Teams who've hired Fisher have instantly improved - Golden State, Utah. And when the Lakers let him go, they sucked. OKC got to the finals with him. Obviously he's worth the risk. And it's not much of a risk anyway, because when he leaves, he agrees that you don't have to pay him any more! It's not even a buyout!

Years ago Fisher was an average player who was fortunate enough to hang on the coattails of really food teams. He's been nearly useless for quite some time.

And when the Lakers let him go, they sucked.

LOL, I assume you're joking. Sure, when the Lakers let Fisher go, they went from 56-26 and making the finals to a 34-48 lottery team.

Of course, you also neglected to mention they also lost a few other guys, too. Namely:

Shaq
Phil Jackson
Karl Malone
Gary Payton
Horace Grant

But yeah, I'm sure losing Fisher was the reason for their decline.
