OT: Derek Fischer is a scumbag

Welcome to our community

Years ago Fisher was an average player who was fortunate enough to hang on the coattails of really food teams. He's been nearly useless for quite some time.

Hasn't posted a double digit PER since 08-09.

Second, who's the victim here? Every time Fisher has left a team, it's been by mutual agreement...

Then why does he have to lie about it (it's the lying that hurts!)? Why does he use his family as an excuse to move on to a situation better suited to his goal of winning another ring? Why lie to the team he's leaving and why lie in the press?

Sure, it sounds a lot better to say: "I'm leaving to spend more time with my family" than to say, "I don't think my current team has a shot at a ring, so I want to go someplace that does". Except, when the former ends up being a flat out lie.

Seriously, if Fisher is such a devoted family man would he really have grown tired of spending time with his family after only 2 months, relocate 1300 miles away and be on the road from February - June? If his kids really needed him, wouldn't he have stayed with them in Los Angeles?

It's the lying and using his kids as an excuse for reneging on his contract that makes him a scumbag - that and the fact that he once, make that twice, wore the piss and purple.

well said... repp'd

I hope his daughter is doing fine and gets the best care possible, but I always thought it was weird that when he got out of his Utah deal, he went to the Lakers instead of Memphis. Not only is he from the area, but Memphis has maybe the premier children's cancer hospital in the country, St. Jude's. Yet somehow he winds up playing in LA...? It always seemed very disingenuous to me.

He also requested a trade from the Warriors when he started losing minutes to Monta Ellis (Baron Davis taking lionshare of PG minutes). When the Warriors traded him to Utah for a big pile of shit he publicly complained that the Warriors didn't trade him to one of the destinations he wanted to go to.

And yeah, hes always diplomatic and sort of makes it hard to trash him, but he seems incredibly disingenuous in his actions as far as manipulating his situation around the league. I met him at an autograph signing VERY briefly and he seemed like the great guy that everyone seems to say he is. But I still don't like the fact that he manipulates situations that he doesn't like.

Somebody should tell him that even though OKC is West of Dallas, it's 67 miles farther from home (Los Angeles).

Has he given his daughter a job with the Players' Union yet?

That's cold and inappropriate, IMO.

Yet teams with a shot at a title still want him. His USG% is miniscule for a SG, which he is, at this point of his career. PER for specialists is meaningless.

LOL, I assume you're joking. Sure, when the Lakers let Fisher go, they went from 56-26 and making the finals to a 34-48 lottery team.

Of course, you also neglected to mention they also lost a few other guys, too. Namely:

Shaq
Phil Jackson
Karl Malone
Gary Payton
Horace Grant

But yeah, I'm sure losing Fisher was the reason for their decline.

You're always knowledgeable and articulate. I almost guarantee you're a Democrat.

wasn't BNM the one who bet with papaG about the election, but voted for Romney?

quick google search (thats sad that I googled it instead of using the search function here) shows I was wrong. it was ToB not BnM.

Bite your tongue blasphemer! I'm not a gambling man. I work too hard for my money to give it away, and I didn't vote for Romney (yes, I see the irony here).

I disliked Fisher until I read this thread. You guys have convinced me. How much should we offer him?

It wasn't aimed at her at all, it was (quite poorly) aimed at his lack of integrity, as a play on the whole Billy Hunter nepotism thing. Fail by me.
