OT: Dodged a Shell More So than a Bullet

Last month I went over to Orlando to attend my sisters Birthday Party. While their my niece, his oldest daughters said "Do you know my dad has cancer?" Found out that my brother had ben diagnosed round Thanksgiving time tried to keep it mum not wanting it to be the topic of Holiday Discussions. At any rate that is what he explained to me when I got him on the phone the next. Long story short he had the surgery, lost a lung but is now clear of the cancer. The Doctor informed him that he was a lucky man. My dad passed from cancer in '89 at 67, my brother is coming up on 64 so I guess I was looking at a possible hereditary connection. No doubt he'll lose his fondness for drink and smoke but in the end a small price for life.

Cancer is a curse, even when its removed the body knows something indifferent occurred, and one is never the same physically or mentally. Then there's the 3-6 month re-checks; and t/ 5 yr wait, like sitting on death row for a verdict of hopefully cancer free.....

I was originally scheduled to lose 1/2 t/rh kidney on halloween morn; then got a reprieve by t/surgery being re-scheduled to the day prior, (wiping sweat from forehead). Not sure why having surgery on Hallowed Eve bothered me; other than I was expecting the Surgeon to show up wearing a Grim Reaper mask, the Nurse wearing t/mask of Satan Herself with no sign of Saint Peter in the 'OR'.....

It's often the spouse and kids imo, who suffers just as much, as she (my wife) wasn't getting the drugs the patient does, enough strong drugs to say: go ahead take whatever ya' want, just make damn good and sure you don't do a Caitlyn to me you fkrs....

just make sure you're checked out thoroughly Michael; I'm sure you have? Hopefully you will continue to be cancer free, and be the one to break the genetic curse....

I'm sure he'll be placed under some sort of "watch". That his cancer was gone came from a Doctors Second opinion. As for myself I am suspect of Big Pharma, the Medical Community, and Insurance Companies in General. My brother did 20 in the Air Force so he has the Tri-care like myself but I'm suspect even of that. He is pretty gutsy about stuff, and will not let the loss of a lug be that big of a deal but he will accept guidance. Besides that he's like the rest of us, got to see the Yankees get another championship.

I complained to 3 different Dr's for 3 yrs, before a 4th Dr would do a simple CT Scan, which was +RNC...

then again 21 yrs ago, I went to 3 Dr's & the ER also, before I went into a Coma from Diabetes of which I had no clue I even had. The 4th Dr listened intently to what were all the signs of excessive blood sugar, (can't drink enough water, have to urinate every 30 mins, was losing my eyesight rapidly, and became xtrmly lethargic, ntm- it was all I could do to comprehend a simple convo). I can't really say Dr's are worse today than yesteryear; but one things never changed, i.e. many/mostDoc's who give a shit enough to care that you don't die....

Odd thing- I had bloodwork done every 3 months, for 5 yrs prior to having Diabetes. My wife sent for those Lab Tests & ever fkng test, 20 in all, had my blood sugar circled by t/Labs, >300, yet the doctors never said a effing thing. s/B-21 70/120 max....

I just went through docs and drugs with the squeeze. Her Primary Care Doctor had her taking so much shit she could hardly arise in the AM. So I started going with her to be a second pair of ears. One morning she broke her shoulder helping our dog. The Doc she had to see for that asked her prior to list the meds she was taking. After examining her he went through her meds asking her the purpose for each one. Long story short her break healed naturally, she changed her primary care doctor, got off of the meds she was on and is now more person than zombie. I think that Doctor who examined her broke shoulder called her primary care doc and raised hell. I remember going to a doctor in the early '00s to see about a prescription to get a quit smoking aid. A receptionist handed me a questionnaire that when answered would give out more information than I thought they needed to know. I ended up quitting cold turkey, not the easiest way I'm told but it sure beat the hell out of worrying about after effects of some medicinal aid. Every time I see one of those Big Pharma Meds advertised on the tube there seem to be more after effects than a cure. I'll stick to aspirin and that is far as I'll go.
