I read rumors after the UW/UO game that UW was prepared to offer Kelly an offer that would make him the 3rd highest paid pac 10 coach besides Petey and Bellotti (Is bellotti the 2nd highest paid???) apparently they had donors lined up to buy out willingham's contract.

Yes, Bellotti is 2nd.

Pete Carrol: 4,000,000
Mike Bellotti: 2,100,000
Jeff Tedford: 1,850,000
Ty Willingham: 1,470,000
Rick Neuheisel: 1,250,000
Dennis Erickson: 1,100,000
Mike Riley: 1,100,000
Mike Stoops: 1,025,000
Jim Harbaugh: 1,000,000
Paul Wulff: 600,000

I stand corrected. I can't find anything about CK ever being New Hampshire HC. I was told he was their HC the last year or two but I guess not. Sorry, I was wrong.:dunno:

I think that is wrong. CK was New Hampshire OC at first but the last year or maybe two he was also the head coach. I will go check to make sure I'm right.

Nah, it's right. From the UNH football season preview press release:

Sean McDonnell enters his 10th season as the head coach of the University of New Hampshire football team and now sports a winning record of 60-46-0 after leading his 2007 Wildcats to their fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA championships...

Who knows if it's true, but this morning the Seattle sports talk guys were saying they expected to pay the Texas Tech coach north of $2MM to come to Seattle. Like I said, a HUGE grain of salt when you listen to anything sports radio guys are saying.

Have I ever mentioned how much it sucks to hear about the Huskies all the time? Guess I don't have to listen to Sonics banter any more and they're actually starting to talk more Blazers basketball up here now. Roy's supposedly doing a regular radio spot (at least I think I heard 'em announce it, but I haven't heard a thing since that announcement. Maybe I was just dreaming it up.)

As a Beaver fan, I dont like this move. I was hoping CK would leave and hope that Alloiti stays forever. :)

Smart smart smart move by the Ducks, but in my opinion they should have given a definite time line of when the change occurs. Like what the Seahawks did with Holmgren/Mora. If MB stays as the coach next season and the Ducks struggle, the fans are gonna go nuts and want CK to take over immediatly. Making the announcement now was a good move. If the Ducks would have lost the Civil War and they made this announcement, it would seem like they are blaming MB for the loss/season. If they wait until after the bowl game and they lose that bowl game, it will seem like MB is to blame for another bowl loss. CK is a stud and could do great things for the Ducks... damn it! :)

Yeah, I like CK a lot. He seems like an ideal football coach: smart, tough, demanding, and able to keep things in perspective. If I were a Duck, I guess my biggest concern would be from a recruiting standpoint. Belotti has nailed plenty of top notch talent..can Kelly do the same?

If he can, watch out. Pure and simple.

That's the least of my concerns as a Duck fan. If you listen to the current Duck players and current high school kids considering Oregon, they all love Chip Kelly. He's a great guy and connects well with players. And at Oregon, they dole out recruting responsibilities among the coaches based on geographic region. Kelly is responsible for Texas and Florida, among others. That should tell you something.

You could make the argument that this announcement was made purely to quiet the concerns of current recruits who were worried that Kelly would leave and they wouldn't get to play for him and in his offense.

So recruiting is the least of my concerns.

I'm concerned mostly about whether we lose a little bit of Kelly's offensive mind, since he'll know have to deal with coach's shows, radio interviews, administrative duties, organizational management, boosters and donors, etc.

There's a whole hell of a lot more than just coaching players that goes into being a head college football coach. Do all of the extra responsibilities take away a little bit of the genius of Chip Kelly's gameplans?

That's what I'm concerned about. But my concerns are also tempered by the fact that people who know a lot more than I do about coaching and a lot more than I do about Kelly's skill set made this decision.

I understand that other teams were probably going to hire him. That doesn't change the fact that he's unproven as a head coach and as a recruiter

1. He IS a genious, and probably the brightest mind of the spread offense in the country.
2. Bellotti is going to step down not because he felt he needed to for himself, but because he felt it was best for UO because he wants Kelly for THEM
3. Recruits have been COMING to Oregon to play for CHIP KELLEY. Bellotti said so himself, that is the 1st question they ask, if Kelly will be there.

so....

I were a Duck, I guess my biggest concern would be from a recruiting standpoint. Belotti has nailed plenty of top notch talent..can Kelly do the same?

this year and last year he has been getting better athletes because of Kelley. And Chip has recruited most of the offensive players on this team anyway, like our sick QBs (Harper, Thomas, etc...). The only thing is defense. He just has to get a great D coordinator... like the Texas coordinator (but he is going to be the next HC at Texas, so we can't get him), he is young, and also a genious at what he does, and he really shows a LOT of passion.

I hope we can get someone like that, not only good as his job, but young and passionate about what he does so he can relate to his players and they WANT to play for him and are motivated by him.

IDK who that is though, but hopefully we can lure a good one. Allioti has only got until Kelly takes over hopefully. God, I think firing Allioti would be better than hiring Kelly!!! (j/k kinda)
