OT: Dumas blame cocaine use on Nancy Regan (2 Viewers)

A guy drinking at age 5 and smoking weed at age 9 is not at-risk at all for future drug issues.

I blame Nancy Ray-gun 100%. He should sue her.

You're right, and I think this is the part that bothers me the most about this. I mean, look at the original quote:

His idle time turned him to drugs and alcohol. He said he tried alcohol at age 5 and marijuana at age 9.
He blames his increased drug use, including cocaine, on former first lady Nancy Reagan.
“She said ‘Just say no,’ so it got me interested,” Dumas said of the slogan that came out when he was 17.

He had already been involved with drugs for 8 years before "Just Say No". How ridiculous to blame the anti-drug campaign.

Ok, after learning more about Erics sex life than I ever wanted to, needed to or should know, I think I can safely contribute to this thread by saying Dumas was, is, and will always be a dumbass as long as he blames someone other than himself here.

Now if you don't mind me, I'm going to drink some bleach to get Eric's post out of my mind.

Well, he is just "B" "S" away from spelling his name correctly.

This thread is... odd. :)

The notion that Nancy Reagan pushed a petty criminal and drug user into heavier stuff is laughable.

My favorite quote is: "He turned out to be a good kid until he got in trouble." Most kids are bad kids WAY before they get into trouble.

Probably. But does giving more information about drugs help or hurt the chances of an at risk kid to experiment more?

Also, lumping drinking and pot in with other drugs in the Just Say No campaign also has a negative effect. Kids realize it is not that bad and do not give any credibility for the other things the program tries to teach.

You can revive the billions of dollars in funding this received if you would like though. I would rather put it towards something like early childhood education or something more productive.

My health teacher in high school pretty much told us all of the ingredients in meth. While it's all easily found online, i'm sure that helped some meth heads out.

Maybe I misread the thread title. I thought it (rightly) said "Dummies blame Reagan"

Dumas is certainly right to blame the Reagan administration for crack cocaine, which financed the war in Nicaragua.

In this timeline, observe how it accelerated in 1981, screeched to a stop in 1988, and agents got busted in 1989.

The point is that the Reagan administration covered its tracks, by halting its addictive drug-pushing activities in the last possible year. Even Bush didn't agree with some dirty Reagan stuff, and busted Reagan accomplices starting in 1989.

Thanks to Dumas for reminding us. The mainstream media wants to erase it from history.

Funny. I've always said the Just Say No campaign has kept me away from drugs. I've always been grateful that I was educated at the right age. I also feel blessed that I discovered my sexuality when the AiDS crisis was well underway and safe sex education was everywhere. Unfortunately, it pretty much made me scared of sex to the point that I really don't have sex at all in my life. I don't give blowjobs or have anal sex which pretty much limits me to getting blown occasionally (not a horrible thing), masturbation, and kissing. My husband and I hardly do anything- just holding each other- which is nice). It's sad but it's better than being dead. How's that for too much information?

Hey......I think I might want to be gay too if I don't have to do that stuff, the clothes are FABULOUS!

Not sure why we care about this Dumbass guy, whoever he is. It's slow in Blazerland I guess.

Loved that quote, too. Basically, he was a good kid until he wasn't a good kid anymore.

Blaming Nancy Reagan, or anyone else for his downfall is laughable and disingenuous. Sack up and take responsibility for your own decisions/actions. Just because the Just Say No campaign made him curious doesn't mean he HAD to start abusing cocaine.

The guy was an amazing talent, but he threw it all away. As a rookie, he averaged 15.8ppg with PER = 18.6 on 62 win Phoenix team that featured Barkley, KJ, Marjerle, Danny Ainge and Tom Chambers. Before he played a single NBA game, he was suspended for an entire season for failing a random drug test. He was suspended again for the entire season after his rookie year and only played 58 more games in the NBA. Way to go Nancy!
