(OT) Dwight Howard about to sign an extension with ORL

Keep your superstars in the east, maybe sometime in the next 10 years the 8th ranked west team won't have a better record then the 5th ranked east team.
 
What's plan b for them? I don't see anyone on the horizon who could help that franchise... Maybe Chris Paul?

LOL. A two year extension with one of those years possibly wiped out due to a lockout? This literally means nothing. I fully expect him in LA or New York (or some other big market) when that piddly extension runs out.

This is two years after his current one runs out, ie, after the 2014-2015 season.

The two year extension implies that he's no longer going to have an option year next year (otherwise, the extension would be meaningless and not worth it for Orlando), which means this amounts to a three year extension...and he already was under contract for one year. So if he actually signs this, it means he's locked up for another four years. I wouldn't call that "piddly"...four years before he's a free agent is a pretty long time in basketball terms.

Well, that is a bit different, but we probably have to look at that last year through the "Carmelo" prism, if it's looking like the Magic are no closer to a championship than they are now, he's going to be a short-timer in his last year. Factoring in the lockout next year, he's basically told his owner/GM, "You've got three years to get this sussed out, after that I'm done." Kudos to him for having any sort of loyalty to the team that drafted him, but I don't see this as a kind of 'EFF-U' move to the Lakers or any other team -- he most certainly has kept his options open with this particular extension.
 
The guy signed an extension under the current CBA. Good move. The new one will be much more limited.

Yep. And it's actually a (minor) help to the players, demonstrating that player movement is still relatively limited amongst top-tier players.

I'm pleased for Orlando fans. They don't deserve to lose Howard.

It's hard to hate that organization after what happened to them with Shaq and the injuries to Penny and Grant Hill.
 
His wife is going to talk him out of it because there is only 1 Turkish restaurant in O-Town!

4 years is forever, no downside to this for orlando, wiping out his option year shows HUGE confidence in the team, good for him

i really hope the magic dont cave and trade him, make him play it out, and if he really wants to join the lakers, let him sign a vet minimum deal

Why did he say he'd sign if he wasn't intending to?

I hope he gets financially bitch-slapped by the new CBA.
