Re: OT: Eric Maynor Draft Profile

Well, there really aren't any sure things in this weak draft. I've only seen Maynor play twice (full games, not just clips) and he's pretty hard to judge based on the competition he faced. But honestly if Maynor and Ty Lawson were both available to be drafted at say fifteen, I think I'd lean toward taking Lawson, even with his shorter stature, I see him as being more of a sure thing just because he's become a great shooter, he's lightning quick and he's got a great low center of gravity and good body (very Chris Paul-esque)

Just try to remember there are going to be some really shitty players in this draft, don't get too in love with these guys

honestly, i think their draft report is a horrible assessment of him as a player.

over the past 3 years he has a pretty good track record of playing his best against the best teams(even though they were able to focus on him more defensively). the one exception really was this year against ou.

i'm confident in maynor being a solid nba player. of all the pgs in this draft that i've seen a lot of(so take out jennings and rubio), i feel that maynor is the best. he had to carry his team offensively, but still got everyone involved and spread the ball around until his team needed him to score.

Same site has some high praises for Johnny Flynn:

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_feature_pieces/774/20090514/draft_report_jonny_flynn_of_syracuse/

Focuses on him as a playmaker for others, mentions his somewhat weak 3 shooting, but also said that he still has to be respected. Says his lack of height defensively will be made up for by his speed, strength, and lift, but also mentions he may have a bit of trouble adjusting to man-to-man in the first year or two, but will improve with reps.

They also had a write-up on Lawson:

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_fe...506/draft_report_ty_lawson_of_north_carolina/

The vast majority of it is talking about how quick he is while dribbling, and how he creates opportunities by being a threat himself. It mentions him as not a great creator by point guard standards (but still a good passer). Defensively it praises him for his quickness and strength, also giving him props for his play in passing lanes.

I don't understand some of their comments.

Maynor isn’t especially creative in this facet of his game and many of his assists at VCU strictly were a result of how much the defense collapsed on him because they respected his offense.

Is that not how most PGs get their assists?

It just sounds like they weren't impressed with Maynor because he isn't as flashy as Flynn or Lawson.
