OT: First All star balloting results released

Thoroughly enjoying the almost-300,000 votes Tracy MacGrady has. Must be doing some work in that suit every night.

Aaron Brooks is leading Billups, Roy, Deron-is-Deron, and Manu.

IMO players should have to play a required number of games to get voted in. My best guess at this point is that the all star voting is actually just a big scam by the NBA in order to get web hits for advertising revenue. :pimp:

The Chinese are apparently loyal to their team.

Well Brandon got what he wanted, so his numbers should start to rise.

Strange that T-Mac would have his name on there but not Yao.

edit: on the results that is.

I agree, players who have been injured at the beginning of the season shouldn't be included on the ballot.

Re: 2010 All-Star Starters....... T-MAC??????

One of the few players in the league that has helped their team less than Steve Blake.

Anybody want to merge this with my thread? I don't care which is merged with which, but same topic basically. :devilwink:

I'm writing in for Yao!

NBA has got to ax the fan voting. It obviously isnt working.

Marion, Scola, and Odom are all ahead of Aldridge! Hilarious!

Axe voting when it generates millions of web hits a day? YOur crazy! That will never happen. It's like a big money scam. Just like those "games" they play at Blazer games where they ask the fans to text their answer to some stupid question to a number for Verizon, and then they all get charged to text their answer there. Total scams man.

I think it was half-time or post game of the Knicks game the other night. Michael Holton was talking about supporting the Blazers by filling out All Star Ballots. He said something like "The Big Fella Greg Oden is still on there so go out and show your support for him . . " I about puked. Why would I vote for a guy who is out for the season? If I was Oden, I would be embarrased to be voted in if I only played 20 games.

Isn't working for what? The All-Star weekend is for fans, and the game is supposed to showcase the players fans want to see. In that respect, it's working perfectly well.

While it's often used that way, All-Star selections shouldn't be used as a proxy for "best players." There's obviously some overlap (generally fans want to see better players), but other things, like popularity, showmanship and style also matter.

The All-NBA teams are probably your better bet for using major awards as "best players."

Well nobody ever said the masses were smart. After all, who the hell would want to watch a broken down small forward play against a completely healthy all star level Lebron at SF?

Apparently quite a few people.

I love how every year, so many people get up in arms over the All Star voting as if it matters for anything.

Yea it actually cracks me up that the players think the honor is worthy of something as well. It is not worth jack dick. The only thing that is is the championship and MVP trophy.

Well, it is an honor for the players, it shows they are liked by the fans. it's nice to have fans.

I dunno. Who would want to see "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs?" Who would want to eat at McDonalds? Who would want to root for the Yankees? Obviously, your tastes won't always mesh with the mainstream's, or a sizeable chunk of the population's. I've long since come to terms with that, personally. ;) I don't think it's "smart" or "not smart" or good or bad. Some things are popular and I don't like all of those things.

They don't need to cut the fan voting, they need to cut fucking China out of it though. It's fucking ridiculous when Yao and TMac can be starters but injured..It's annoying as fuck.

Coaches and players should vote, not fans!
