Another professional football league -- the Freedom Football League -- has been created by former NFL players, including Ricky Williams, Terrell Owens and Simeon Rice, with the intention of "reimagining, rethinking, reinventing and reforming" the game, it was announced Thursday.

The league did not say when it would begin play, though it did say the first 10 teams would be the San Diego Warriors, Oklahoma City Power, Portland Progress, Texas Revolution, Ohio Players, Florida Strong, Birmingham Kings, St. Louis Independence, Connecticut Underground and Oakland Panthers.

XFL is coming back too plus there is another Pro Football league starting that I forget the name of. Seems like some of them should have held off.

Looking at the team names, and reading the comments from Williams in the article, it's pretty clear that they're trying to capitalize on the anthem protest controversy, and setting this up as the black people's football league. Community ownership, encouraging athletes to use their platform and voice, evoking Jim Brown--they're taking direct shots at the NFL's mostly white ownership and value system.

I would not be at all surprised if this gets a significant following within a very short period of time.

I'm half boycotting the NFL now for those very reasons.

Good. ANYTHING but the NFL. I'll be the first person down there buying season tickets. If somebody would just make a commitment to a team in this city.

And thanks to Larry Scott, the Pac-12 has become a pile of dogshit too.

Yep, and you're not alone. This FFL wants your support, and it sounds like (at least early in the process) they're going about it the right way.

For a league to be successful, they need top tier talent. That is key. If they can convince top tier players to join their teams, they will have a shot.... otherwise no.

Well, this new spin up of the XFL is designed to align with the other side of the anthem protest. As in, the XFL will be the Trump football league.

I don't think it has a snowball's chance. The NFL is still king.
