Tonight vs. Minnesota, Corey Maggette was:

0-2 FG, with 17 points. 17-20 from the line in 13 minutes!

Exactly, he's built like a brick too. You'd think the refs would finally stop blowing the whistle everytime he gets breathed on.

I think he meets with the refs in their pregame meeting with some knee pads to get all those calls.

All that floppin'!

Actually, I don't consider Maggette a flopper. He uses his strength and build to initiate contact and draw fouls. He's a hard guy to officiate (and defend). He's the one initiating the contact and beating the crap out of his defender, but if the defender's feet aren't set, Maggette gets the call. Sort of like a mini-Shaq. In both cases, I think a lot more non-calls would be appropriate. I mean sure, the defender may not technically have his feet set, but if he's backpedaling like crazy to keep from getting run over by a human freight train, is it really fair to call a foul on him after he gets launched into the third row?

Son, you obviously didn't catch ANY Blazer vs GState games the past 2 years!

You don't get free throws for flopping and drawing offensive fouls, though.

Actually, I did. And what I saw was Maggette bowling over defenders and getting the calls. More often than not, it was the defender that ended up on their ass, not Maggette, but it was always Maggette at the line for two.

If the other team is in the penalty FAMS! Learn the game, then post!

LA probably picked up 8 offensive fouls against them last season because of his flopping.

No, he probably didn't. In fact, he definitely didn't. You're just making shit up. He had a TOTAL of 7 fouls against Golden State last season and EXACTLY one of them was an offensive foul. Three of them were shooting fouls on Maggette, which is exactly what I was talking about. Maggette bowls into the defender, draws the contact and gets to the line. That's not flopping. It's taking advantage of a weaker defender. Shaq made a career of it, and for a guy who isn't a superstar, Maggette uses it to get a hell of a lot of calls. I mean, come on, he's played his entire career for the Clippers and Warriors, yet he's regularly in the top 10 in the league at getting to the line.

Take your own advice:

"Section VII--Offensive Fouls
A personal foul assessed against an offensive player which is neither an elbow, punching or flagrant foul shall be penalized in the following manner:
(1) No points can be scored by the offensive team
(2) The offending player is charged with a personal foul
(3) The offending team is not charged with a team foul
EXCEPTION: Rule 3--Section I--a. No penalty free throws are awarded.
(4) The ball is awarded to the offended team out-of-bounds on the sideline at the nearest spot where play was interrupted but no nearer the baseline than the free throw line extended "

The ONLY time FTs are awarded on an offensive foul is if it's a flagrant foul.

Maybe it wasn't last year, but I could have sworn there was a game recently in Golden State where Maggette drew something like 2 or 3 offensive fouls on LMA, or at least completely shut him down and frustrated him into a terrible game.

HCP is the A/V guy, not a basketball guy. No shame in that. He probably knows all the sub-sections of the electrician's handbook.

You're probably thinking of the game on November 18, 2008. Aldridge fouled out and half of his six fouls were offensive. However, he was playing like shit (1-7 from the field) before he started picking up all the offensive fouls. I think the offensive fouls were a result of his frustration over his poor play, not the cause of it.

That was a year before.

...I was thinking the very same thing, he is rumored to be homosexual after all.

What does that have to do with Magette being a flopper against Aldridge? Can't a flopper on one end also be an agressor on the other end?

Aldridge got into early foul trouble that game because of Magette's flopping. I think your opinion is incorrect.

You're wrong. Aldridge didn't get into foul trouble until the 3rd quarter when he picked up two quick offensive fouls to go with the two total fouls he had in the first half. By the time he picked up his 3rd foul, 2nd offensive, he was 1-7 and already having a bad game.

I've always liked your takes. You should post more often.

What does that have to do with Magette being a flopper against Aldridge?

Nothing. No one said it did. I believe this is what you call a strawman.

The point of this thread is Maggette's unusual stat line (0-2 FG, 17-20 FT and 17 points in 13 min). HCP incorrectly stated that Maggette shoots a lot of FTs because he's a flopper and cited the Aldridge example. To which Ed correctly pointed you don't get to shoot FTs by flopping and drawing offensive fouls.

Can't a flopper on one end also be an agressor on the other end?

Strawman. No one in this thread has said anything to the contrary. So, who are you arguing with?

Thanks. Unfortunately, this forum tends to be dominated by a very small minority of posters who are blatant trolls, drama queens and attention whores. I find them to be an intolerable waste of my time. So, I don't post much any more.
