Brooklyn Nets small forward Gerald Wallace became the second player in the NBA -- and second Net -- to be fined under the league's new anti-flopping rules.

The league announced Wednesday that Wallace was fined $5,000 for picking up his second flopping violation of the season late in the third quarter of Saturday night's 102-89 loss to the Miami Heat.

Okay, maybe not; but you would think an example would be made on those that do it so frequently. Many of them aren't even superstars.

Why? Dirk has been injured and hasn't played yet this season. They'll probably send him down to the D League for a few games to adjust his flopping technique before calling him up to the new, stricter NBA.

you would think an example would be made on those that do it so frequently. Many of them aren't even superstars.

But many are, so if they crack down too hard the bias will be undeniable. Hate to say it but the NBA needs refs on the sideline, ie booth.

The only penalty for flopping should be the lack of a foul call. Take a dive, leave your man open to shoot. If the other team can't take advantage of a 5 on 4 situation, that's their fault. Fining the players the relative equivalent of a couple hundred bucks after the fact is ridiculous.

Just to put it in perspective if my math is right GW makes 10,000,000 this year and $5000 is .05% is his checks. If I make $60,000 then .05% of my checks would be $30. So stupid.

True. The intent is to not disrupt play, but to review possible flops after the fact and fine a pattern of blatant 'unsportsmanlike' behavior deemed detrimental to the integrity of the league. Now if only they'd start fining refs for 'star' treatment. LOL
