I don't wish Travis ill, and hope he rebounds quickly, but in light of some other auld lang syne threads recently I thought this was timely.

He's averaging 9ppg/4rpg in 29 mpg. His PER for 2300 minutes is a Blanky-worthy 8.8. The unblockable shot's only going down 37% of the time, and 29% from 3.

It might be worth checking to see how desperate NJN are to get rid of him. He's not going to do better anywhere else in the league than he will here, for McMillan.
Bolded for KingSpeed emphasis ;)

As Travis Outlaw was attempting free throws Tuesday night a group of Nets fans inside Prudential Center mockingly chanted "M-V-P!"

You could find some truth to the chant, though. Outlaw has been the Nets’ most vilified player and the most vulnerable player — to criticism, that is.

It’s not all Outlaw’s fault he’s become this season’s Yi Jianlian. The Nets are the ones who gave the forward a five-year, $35 million contract last summer. But Outlaw admits he hasn’t met the expectations that come with a deal like that.

"It was not a good season for me," said Outlaw, who had 11 points on 4-for-13 shooting in Wednesday’s 116-109 loss to the Detroit Pistons. "It wasn’t bad. I was at a new position. But I know I can do way better.

"I’m a little disappointed because I know I can play way better than what I’m doing."

The Nets hope some opposing executives feel the same way. On the Nets’ off-season, to-do list is trying to find a team to take Outlaw, who began Wednesday averaging 9.2 points on 37.8-percent shooting. Perhaps the only redeeming quality about Outlaw’s contract is it doesn’t increase. He makes $7 million per year across the board and he’s only 26.

The Nets probably realize they hastily signed Outlaw. Once they knew LeBron James, Rudy Gay and other big free agents weren’t coming, ex-Nets president Rod Thorn and coach Avery Johnson felt they had to get someone.

They signed Outlaw hoping they could convert him into a full-time small forward, but he’s more comfortable at power forward. Now, for the third consecutive offseason, the Nets will see if they can upgrade the small forward spot. They could pursue restricted free agent Wilson Chandler, but will see who is available through trades.

Outlaw has started 55 times and is the only Net besides Brook Lopez to play every game. Outlaw has fluctuated between small and power forward and between backup and starter.

Ultimately, Outlaw lost his starting job to rookie Damion James. Johnson believes Outlaw is better suited coming off the bench because he’s a slow starter.

He seems to play better in second halves of games than the first half.

All of this plays into how Outlaw is viewed. It’s also possible the contract is weighing down Outlaw as much as it is the organization. He said he feels the pressure to perform.

At least he's more famous then KingSpeed!

Is it time to start a 'stick it to him' thread about Yi being an all star?

I think NJ is a terrible place for Travis. He's a country boy, and Northern New Jersey is no place for someone like that. Brooklyn will be even worse. He needs a strong hand and someone that will design a system where he doesn't have to think. Nate maximized his abilities and got him that contract. The bigger issue is that his contract makes him untradable, so he's stuck.

Too bad. He's a good guy.

Outlaw has defiantly stunk this season. The guy has a lot of talent but not the BBIQ to become anything other then a decent 6 man or an okay starter. Now it looks like he has regressed passed both of those and sits in the "oh god how the hell can we get our money back"

hey we tried the MVP chant with Diener last year.. .I'm gonna say the guy got the idea from me! :)

Travis has not done well this season, but why no mention of Martell who you always championed while knocking TO? Didn't you predict that he'd star on the lowly Wolves?

If there is an amnesty deal in the new CBA, he might become available.

He's just what we need--another 6'8 SF masquerading as a backup power forward.

Great Travis memory................ we had just arrived at our hotel in Manhattan, and all the guys were getting ready to hit the town. Travis walks up and asked what we were getting into....... I told him we had a roped off V.I.P. section waiting for us over at SCORES. I asked him if he wanted to go with us and he said, "Ah, geez. I don't even know what that is." Couldn't be more out of his element if he tried. OKC and Charlotte are his best fits if you ask me.

I always thought he'd enjoy playing in Memphis, coming off the bench. I bet Monty could make him effective in NO as well.

Kinda interesting to see Roy, Blake, and Outlaw all having possibly their worst seasons in their respective careers in 2010-2011.

Never ever was a Outlaw fan. I will admit that I was a Webster fan. So I'm just as bad as anyone on either account.

I was wracking my brains trying to come up with ways to unload Roy's contract (he can't be any more untradeable than Gilbert Arenas - can he?) and I kept coming back to NJ, and Travis. Travis + Johan Petro + Jordan Farmar comes to a Roy salary, and they're all signed to multi-year contracts and NJ might have buyer's remorse about each of them.

I'd do that just so that we'd be free of the painful reminder of the Roy that was, and Nate would be free of the sick feeling that he has to give Roy minutes. If any of them could contribute it would just be gravy.

(Of course, at the moment Roy's salary is still Base Year, which fucks things up.)

so do yall just love stickin it to guys? or just kingspeed?

Mostly just guys that end the defense of their uninformed opinions with "Learn the game, then post", or "Sorry, it's teh truTh."

I don't think I said he'd star on the Wolves, b/c Rambis wanted to run the bastardized Triangle. I did say he could be a poor man's combo of Reggie Miller and Bruce Bowen. :dunno:

Even with his back injury, he'd be leading our team in 3pt shooting at 42%. But I digress. If I'd seen an article saying something like "Webster is nothing close to Reggie Miller or Bruce Bowen" I'd post it also. It was the timing and the wording, not the piling on of Travis, that I thought was funny and postworthy.

Roy is due to injury, but it's clear now that Nate is a far better coach than either PJ or Johnson.

here you are projecting he'd take over Kobe's role in the triangle initiating their offense

he'd also rank 11th in PER... right after Chris Johnson and Patty Cakes

okay, it just struck me as odd that a long time Webster lover is still trying to "stick it to the Outlaw lovers" given MW's season

What does Travis Outlaw having a terrible season in New Jersey have to do with those who appreciated his 15 PER and big shots as a Blazer?

Odd thread.

Oh hush. Don't be bringing that common sense stuff around here!

There has to be a better reason to wrack your brain.

Brains. The more brains, the more the need to wrack them.

The less brains one has, the more important it is to perserve the few you have left. Don't wrack them over the wrong stuff.

I like Wallace at the backup PF more than Travis.

I wouldn't think of touching Travis when I heard he got a 35mil contract.

But if we could sign him for a cheap deal I'd glady add him to our bench. Rudy is a 3 point specialist who can't shoot and Roy tonight lead our bench scoring with 5 points in 29 minutes. We let the Lakers back into that game when we had to put subs in during the 3rd quarter and couldn't score for 6 minutes. Nate had to rush his starters back in and play them 40 minutes. Sure Travis was a low IQ player and has a number of deficiencies in his game but he provided scoring off the bench and can hit a wide open 3 ball. I haven't got to watch many Nets games this year but I'd suspect Travis is having to take more contested shots then here which lower your percentages.

Why is that a bad thing? The opposite used to be Aldridge, so Nate had them complement each other. Avery Johnson (.304) won't be around for long.
