Why don't the knicks just match?

Then they could then trade him to any number of teams, and they'd have 2 years to do it before the killer 3rd year puts them over the tax. yes, I understand that they'd have to wait a bit.

If they traded him to a team with cap space, they could get a trade exception and maybe a player.

The alledged Jason Kidd DUI this morning in NY might force their hand. Unless the Knicks don't care about public image. Great tweet from Incarcerated Bob:

For all those that want to go into next season with 39Year Old #Kidd who can't stay sober & Ray "Goodyear Blimp" Felton - Over Lin.. HAAHAA

Probably because for Houston, or the initial offering team, the salary is broken out into 3 even years. Once Knicks match, it is structured to fit their cap(Balloon payment last season). So to trade him after one season, the acquiring team woud be landing someone at a good proce for one year, and then a huge raise the second. Unlikely to find a ton of suitors looking to pay him 15 in 2 years.

I hear what you are saying, but it seems he'd have a lot of value at the trade deadline - even with balloon payment.
