OT: Jesse Jackson calls Dan Gilbert 'slave owner'

I can't say that I don't see a little bit of truth in that analogy. But in a non-racial way. Jesse, of course, has to frame everything in race, and in that, at least, he's wrong.

Jesse Jackson has no credibility and quite the hypocrite. Does he still have a grudge against the Jews?

Hyperbole much? Jesus H. Christ, give me a fucking break.

I hate this shit so much. God forbid any white person says anything whatsoever negative about a black person. Instant racial remark in the eyes of the real racists

Al Sharpton should be weighing-in soon............................3............................2.........................1....................

wow, and i thought Gilbert guaranteeing a title was dumb, he looks like the president of mensa compared to Jesse

Someone was lonely, because he's pretty much been gone from TV and the news since he said that he wanted to cut off Obamas nuts.

There was a time when this country could talk about black people. It was an exciting time...You should have been there.

This is why the Utah Jazz like to acquire white guys. You can fire a white guy and nobody says a damn thing.

Is KP part black?

I agree with Jackson. My brother actually said the exact same thing after Gilbert's comments. Used the term "runaway slave."

Erroneous- you really think Jackson has to die for having an opinion?

James owed Gilbert nothing and Gilbert did act like he owned LeBron.

Even in 2010, there is still racism. Man, some of you are so bitter that you were born white.

No, he isn't acting like a slave owner at all. This sounds more like a breakup or a divorce to me. LeBron broke his heart and now he's upset.

It crossed a line. Was more than just negative.

Jesse Jackson...just wow. What a fucking idiot. LeBron was going to be paid more then 99% of white people ON THE PLANET. Yet a slave comparison comes out? When Gilbert was actually going to pay LeBron MORE money then anyone else? Jesse Jackson is eroding the credibility of reasonable anti-racist activism with this kind of stupidity.

You're right. It's called reverse racism and it's everywhere in this country. White people can be made fun of, passed over for jobs, and turned down for things like scholarships because they are white and they can't complain, but as soon as a comedian says the "N" word the entire country goes into an uproar. What black comedian hasn't at one point or another had a bit in their act making fun of white people? Name one? I am so tired of the racism card.

It crossed a line. Was more than just negative.

What line was that again? He just went off. He didn't say ANYTHING to justify a slave owner comparison. This is like the people that called Bush OR Obama Hitler. It's just fucking ridiculous.

Broke his heart? No. Cost him $200 million? Yes. Gilbert hated the guy before "The Decision.". He implied as much. This has nothing to do with his heart. His property just lost almost $200 million in value. That's why he's pissed.

Silly, everyone knows that young, Black NBA players are exploited by White owners:

He talked of LeBron as if he owned him. The Magic showed class when Shaq left.

Dude, while you were making money on T.V. I was WORKING with poor people of color helping them become self sufficient and working hard to make sure that any discrimination in their work place was dealt with appropriately. I also helped white people who had lost everything. I was in the trenches helping people of color.

Don't make broad sweeping statements like that about people on this forum. The racism card is used inappropriately all the time and this detracts from ACTUAL systemic racism, like red lining, gerrymandering of districts and lack of funding for schools that are filled with minorities. These are REAL issues to draw attention to. This kind of ridiculous ABSURD cries of racism when there was nothing of the sort in there actually HARMS real cries against REAL racism.

This is akin to the little boy who cried wolf. Say it enough when there is no cause and then people don't listen when someone is dealing with the very real and dangerous racism that exists in America today.

Really? Did he say something that sounded like a slave owner slave relationship? Please quote the text and cite it.

The travails of Multi-millionaire black athletes in America is the last place in America folks need to cry out about racism.

It's just fucking absurd when there are right now black children in East St. Louis who are being forced into prostitution due to REAL racism.

Racism is almost non-existant once one attains enough money. The most dangerous racism is that which denies economic access due to insufficient schooling and/or employment opportunity. Once economic/educational access becomes a level playing field this will automatically disrupt the racist paradigms in America that keep people of color from having equality.

If Gilbert said something racist, I mean OVERTLY racist. I'd like to see it.

I have no problem with calling out real racism like that of Michael Richards you call that shit out and you treat the person accordingly as a bigot. Reaching for that label when it is inappropriate just fuels the fire of those who are already racist or folks who are ignorant and susceptible to those who are already racist.
