Lance Stephenson was charged with pushing his girlfriend down a flight of stairs, police said.

Stephenson roughed up Jasmine Williams, 21, in the stairwell of her Brooklyn apartment building at about 5 a.m., according to police.

Stephenson's blows sent Williams tumbling head-first down 10 steps, requiring her to be treated at a hospital for injuries to her head and neck, cops said.

Stephenson was charged with third-degree assault. He was awaiting arraignment on Saturday night.

I've read a lot of things that say he's a bonehead. Like Isaiah Rider level bonehead.

Just watch this video interview. He speaks and thinks like a bonehead.

Ihad never heard of him til this article.

When a couple of players single-handedly demolish a team's championship aspirations through a single act of stupidity people sometimes have a tough time letting that go. You can't really blame Pacer's fans for having this kind of reaction.

It is just beyond me how the Pacers did zero homework on this guy.

So you would be a lawyer if you were not in the NBA, Lance? Really?

One of the best high school players to come out of New York City. Played at the same high school as Telfair and I think broke his scoring record there.

In fairness they spent a mid-to-late 2nd round pick on him. Kind of worth the gamble all things considered.

When did that happen, and to what team?

I have been a Pacer fan since elementary and it was not. Alot of bridges were burnt after our finals appearance. This just shows that the Bird management team still does not have a clue. Even if this guy was signed as a free agent, you still have to do a simple background check.

Maris61, Nik was referring to the Pacers after the brawl in Detroit.

2nd round pick. Cut the guy, no big deal.

In 03, Indy was a serious contender in the east after winning 61 games. They were considered one of the top teams before they were decimated from suspensions after the Detroit brawl. Tinsley, Artest, Jackson, Jermaine, and more recently, Daniels, Shawne Williams, etc, etc all killed their reputation.

Stephenson had issues while in high school. There's a reason a top prospect like him only had Cincinatti (fitting) after him. Bird should have done his due diligence before drafting him, and then signing him to multi-year contract (albeit, it's a very small $$ amount).

Oy. Not looking good.

NEW YORK -- Indiana Pacers draft pick Lance Stephenson, after pushing his girlfriend down a flight of stairs, grabbed her and hit her head on the bottom step, prosecutors said Monday.

Authorities say the confrontation occurred around 5 a.m. Sunday when the woman, Jasmine Williams, was returning home to her apartment building with two friends. Witnesses said Stephenson was waiting for her and yelled, "Are you kidding me?" before pushing her down the stairs.

A criminal complaint provided Monday by the Brooklyn district attorney's office said that as Williams lay at the bottom of the stairs, Stephenson picked up her head and slammed it on the bottom step.

To be fair, he had offers from Kansas, Maryland, Memphis, St. Johns and USC. Probably would have gone to Kansas if he hadn't waited so long in the recruiting process. They ended up signing Xavier Henry instead.

I'm pretty sure that if the charges stick the Pacers can void his contract using the CBA's "ethics" clauses, but damn that team just can't shake the knucklehead image they've acquired ... funny enough, the "Jailblazers" transgressions pale next to some of the kinds of shit Pacers players have done (usually revolving around extreme violence of one sort or another).

I don't know. There was some pretty serious stuff that happened with those "Jailblazer" teams. It seemed like every week in the news somebody was getting arrested or being investigated for doing stupid shit.

Yeah there was definitely stupid shit, but it (mostly) wasn't violent shit.

I recall when Sheed made the front page of the O for possibly swerving within his lane...

the local team where I live (the Warriors) were at least as bad during the same era and no one cares here. No one. With brand new players/management, the fans don't obsess on their dismal past. But then their local press didn't go on a witch hunt

Yeah, but its a little different in a city thats kind of a one horse town. We had players flipping off fans, insinuating that the community is racist, threatening store clerks, leaving their door open with massive amounts of weed on the counter etc... Between that and players trying to fight coaches and refs, cold cocking teammates in practice, yada, yada. It was a mess. That Blazer team deserved the national scrutiny they endured.

and of course locally its going to be magnified in a place where the hoops team is all we got.

whatever... we disagree. I think the only reason that nonsense resonated was because the national media hates little podunk Portland for it's lousy ratings. GS was wallowing in players choking and punching out it's coaches (Spree, Hardaway), cocaine (Chris Porter), a team captain blowing off practice to go golfing (Mookie), true thuggery (Chris Mills), and going through players and coaches like they were throwaway cards. They were worse IMO but Portland was the national punchline. I'd bet my bottom dollar that the next time Portland is really really good, the national media will have figured out a new angle to look down their collective noses at them. If it gives them a platform it will be Quick and Co feeding spoon feeding them the material.

We were a collection of has-beens though, with name recognition and the highest payroll in the league. We were actually a very successful team, that particular Warriors team were cellar dwellars. Thats what garnered them more of a spotlight.

I don't think its a figment of anyone's imagination that Blazers team was dysfunctional. As much as I loathe Canzano and Quick as the next guy, that was a truly fucked up team.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
