Apparently Kobe pretty much said the same thing... but he was a little smarter about it. He said that they could win at least one game if they played against the original Dream Team.

Still, this is what Jordan said about Kobe.

"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said.

The LOLs would be off the chart if they don't win the gold. or hell, even lose a game.

Who was on the US Select team back in '92?

Clyde Drexler
Michael Jordan
Scottie Pippen
Charles Barkley
Larry Bird
Patrick Ewing
John Stockton
Karl Malone
Christian Laettner
David Robinson
Magic Johnson
James Worthy

I did not have to look it up. I remember. Don't ask me whose on even the current team as I probably could not name all of them.

Mullin, not Worthy

Anfernee Hardaway
Grant Hill
Allan Houston
Bobby Hurley
Jamal Mashburn
Eric Montross
Rodney Rogers
Chis Webber

That's what I meant ^

I think that's a more fair comparison to this 2012 team.

Not a bad team at all when all those guys were healthy.

Penny
Houston
Hill
Mashburn
Webber

would give the current Olympic team a run for their money I think. Penny, Hill, and Webber were all amazing when they were healthy.

Still, this is what Jordan said about Kobe.

He only made that clarification the next morning after he got killed by the media and Dream Teamers.

When has there ever been that many HOFers on one team?

I mean, outside of Laetner, was there a single guy on that team that isn't already in the HOF or soon to be in the HOF?

I don't blame LeBron or Kobe for saying that... almost everyone who makes it to the NBA has to have some odd sense of reality in order just to be there. They have to think that they're the best and they have to be competitive.

By the time you get to elite players, those attributes must be off the charts. If it results in distorted thoughts about how they'd do against the best basketball team of all time, it's only to be expected.

I think it is interesting to look at it a slightly different way...

How many of the current team's players would even make the 1992 team? In my opinion, it looks like this:

Definitely:
Kobe
Lebron

Likely:
Durant

Possibly:
Chris Paul

Not Likely:
Deron

No Chance:
Westbrook
Love
Iguodala
Harden
Davis
Chandler
Carmelo

Bird's quote cracks me up.

The '92 Dream Team's (the ONLY Dream Team) second unit would beat the current team's starters.

Laettner and Mullin are the only two guys I could see being replaced on that team. I mean Isiah Thomas didn't even make that team

Well, the thing is, Bird and Magic were past their primes at that point, so I think you could make a case that LeBron would get a spot, but not Kobe. Not at this point in his career. Five or six years ago? Sure, but not now.

The other thing is, and maybe some of you old timers could correct me, but all these current stars are used to the bullshit version of the league that exists today. I don't remember the stars of the late 80s/early 90s getting coddled like these guys do. I think prime Pippen would make Durant his bitch.

NSFW my ass! It's just a skateboarder taking a shit!

Isiah Thomas didn't make the team because a number of players didn't want to play with him.

It should have been Shaq instead of Laettner, but then who would have carried the bags?

Shaq was amazingly athletic his rookie year, before injuries and getting fat (and he was still pretty fucking dominant, even as an older fat ass). Even without Shaq, that Dream Team was the most amazing assemblage of basketball talent ever. Imagine adding young Shaq to that roster!

Whats amazing to think about the Dream team is the fact that Hakeem wasn't on the team (wasn't eligible).
