will this be the last time a player ever gets done a favor like this? they could have kept him for less than $1,000,000...only thing that makes sense is that they underestimated his market, and once they realized he was going to get a huge offer said "oh well, live and learn"

The Bosh angle is new, tho.
 
If the Rockets sign Bosh to an obscene amount of money, how much will they have to go after a SF if they don't match Parsons.

And why are we talking about Parsons in a Lebron thread . . . with a title that is wrong . . .

so their grand plan was to decline his option and turn him into an rfa... to save 400k of cap space? that just doesnt make any sense at all, sorry

As soon as Chandler Parsons officially signs his offer sheet with the Mavericks, the Rockets will have 72 hours to act. If they match Dallas’ offer, Parsons’ cap hold ($2,875,130) will immediately be replaced on the books by his 2014-15 salary, which is at or near the max ($14,746,000).

Obviously, Houston wants to delay that as long as possible. Signing Bosh first with cap space first and then exceeding the cap to re-sign Parsons – something possible only as long as his cap hold remains on the books – is the Rockets’ ideal plan.

However, even if the roster is stripped to just Dwight Howard, James Harden and Parsons’ cap hold, Houston still couldn’t offer Bosh a max contract.
 
The Rockets could come close, offering $83,088,781 over four years. Bosh’s max with Houston is $88,151,588 over four years.

Maybe Bosh doesn’t care about that $5,062,807 difference. If so, more power to him.

However, he was reportedly dismayed by Miami lowballing him. I’m not sure he’s running to Houston on a discount.

And for the Rockets to offer even that much, they’d have to dump several players – including starters Patrick Beverley and Terrence Jones. Bosh would replace Jones at power forward, making that departure less of a big deal.

But Jeremy Lin is already ready set to be moved, and if Beverley is gone too, who plays point guard? Without either, Houston is much less appealing.

Bosh could sacrifice more salary – $6,804,570 total over four years – to give the Rockets room to keep Beverley, but again, that makes their offer less appealing.

If the Rockets let Parsons walk, Houston could could max out Bosh while keeping Beverley (and one of Omri Casspi, Isaiah Canaan, Robert Covington or Josh Powell or Troy Daniels’ qualifying offer). Once more, the Rockets without a key player – Parsons in this case – are much less appealing.

Tom Penn showed on Sportscenter that the Rockets would have $20.5 in cap space to give Bosh a max contract. They could keep all of Howard, Harden, Beverly, Jones and Parson's cap hold. They need an agreement to not sign their first round pick so his cap hold comes off the books. They would need to trade away everyone else and receive no salary in return; which is the deal rumored to be in place with Philly.

If Parsons signs his deal today then the Rockets have three days until the very end of the day Sunday to finalize those trades and sign Bosh. Then they can match the offer sheet to Parsons. They'll have no bench except Jones and the room exception of $2.5 million. The rest of the roster will be minimum salary players.

This is the endgame Morey has been playing towards for years and he has done an exceptional job of it. They are a lock to match the Parsons deal. If they do end up paying the tax it would be a very small amount. The Mavs did a great job making the contract as toxic as possible but only being 3 years and Houston wanting to win now makes it palatable. It's not as if Houston is spending like Brooklyn; after tax they'll be $100 million less then the Nets.

That possible starting five is ridiculous; I sure as hell hope we don't have to play them in the first round again. If they had Bosh spacing the floor on offense instead of Asik we would've been beat easily. Bosh makes that team vastly superior than any iteration with Melo.

It is a frightening prospect. I hope LeBron stays in Miami because I would rather deal with the Heat in the Finals instead of the Rockets in the WCF.

Make no mistake, they will be the favorites too. With those three players, they will have arguably the best starting five in basketball.

Tom Penn; who was a professional capologist for NBA teams; was on Sportscenter saying the Rockets could make that max offer to Bosh while keeping Parsons and Beverly. I'm going to trust him over some random website with unofficial numbers. Those figures are just estimates. The exact terms of NBA contracts aren't public and complicated things such as likely and unlikely incentives change the figures.

Yeah I'd definitely say they are the best starting 5. They have a real big 3 with Howard/Bosh/Harden that compliment each other. Beverly and Parsons are great starting options that don't need the ball to be effective. Outside of an injury they are strong favorites to make it through the west. The Spurs will be a year older with injuries to Patty and Ginobili. I think winning the title will dull some of that lazer focus motivation they had all of last year. The west is so competitive any team is going to have trouble when picked against the field but that Houston squad on paper is historic.
 
Shit if Houston gets Bosh and Match's Parsons deal they will be an amazing team for a small amount of time. It seems like they will be too expensive once they hit the repeater tax they will have to break up the team, which is also when Parsons would expire, but until then I would give that team the favorite to win the title every year.

They would have, arguably, the best shooting guard, the best center, and maybe the best power forward. People forget how good Bosh was before he went to Miami.

He was always soft on D (and always will be). LMA always destroyed him when they played and he will continue to do so. LMA is a much better defender than Bosh IMHO. I'm not concerned.

Bosh won't put up the numbers to be in that conversation, just wont have enough offensive numbers but he should be in the best defensive PF

Aldridge is better than Bosh but it's a small advantage. Dwight is miles better than Rolo. Combine those and their frontcourt whoops us. SF is a toss up. Can Dame/Wes vastly outplay Bev/Harden? It'll be very tough.

Numbers don't matter. If he went back to playing for a shitty team, he would be putting up numbers to be in the discussion. I think he still has to be considered one of the top power forwards.

Its been a long time since Bosh has had to shoulder the responsibility of being a focus of the opponents defense. Bosh is an amazing player and changed his game an incredible amount to fit in with Miami. I'm just not sure if he could change his game back to being the #1 or #2 option on a good team.
