OT: Looks like Denver overplayed their hand

If I'm the fragrant one, I am on the phone with Denver offering Batum, Miller, Joel and our two firsts. Then get Melo, and deal him to NJ for Favors, Harris and one of their picks

It seems the owner was right. The rumors have been a big distraction. The team played much better tonight, beating the Jazz by 8, without all the Melodrama.

Huh? The Nets made this public so they could save a little bit of face, because it's almost guaranteed that Melo gave no indication he'd sign an extension with them. That's a hot potato we don't want.

That sets a horrible presedence for the rest of the league. If the inmates start runing the asylum all we will have is a few super teams and a bunch of turkey teams for them to butcher.

This is not an asylum and the players are certainly not inmates. Your comment smacks of subtle racism. This is a business and these are very talented athletes who want to decide where to work and raise their families. How can you hold that against them? If you were the best at what you do, wouldn't you want that? Or are you more in favor of a system where the players are treated like slaves?

Since when have the insane been a race? I mean I know there's the 'gingers' and that's almost the same thing, but ...

russians get shit done, so much drama and bullshit usually.

in or out? not saying? ok - fuck ya, we're out!

Since when do slaves get guaranteed contacts pushing $100 million? Anthony has exactly the freedoms you described. He can decide where he wants to play, live and raise his kids. Last time he had the choice, he chose to stay in Denver and signed a contract extension. As soon as that contract has been fulfilled, he will again have the same ability to make those choices. Equating Carmelo Anthony's situation to slavery is an insult to the memory of those who were treated as property without basic human rights. Carmelo Anthony signed his current contract with Denver - a guaranteed contract. He no longer wants to fulfill the terms of that contract and is trying to force the other party to relieve him of his obligations to honor that contract by trading him to the team of his choosing. This has nothing to do with slavery. Anthony signed that very lucrative contract voluntarily. He always has the option to actually honor the terms of that contract, play out the season, become an unrestricted free agent and sign a new contract to play wherever he wants. There were no free agent slaves. No freedom period.

But Denver is not as smitten with Danilo Gallinari as Mike D'Antoni is, and as much as the Nuggets have been impressed by the way Wilson Chandler has played, the Nuggets do not want to box themselves into a position in which they'd have to overpay to keep Chandler next summer when he becomes a restricted free agent.

The key for the Knicks might be finding a third team that likes Chandler and would give up a player the Nuggets covet.

Blazers forward Nicolas Batum is Exhibit A in such a scenario, but Portland general manager Rich Cho said publicly last week that he has no intention of trading the young French forward

And if he wants a job where he can just leave and go somewhere else like the rest of us, I'm sure he'd have no trouble getting one. I think the NBA can convince someone to come fill in that indentured servitude opening lol.

But FWIW its something of a courtesy by him to let the Nugz know that he is in fact leaving. Hes a prick, don't get me wrong, but he could just pull a LeBron and act like hes unsure or act like he wants to stay in Denver and then bolt. He told em hes signing in NY and that fact remains. Denver doesn't have to trade him. Theoretically its the same as if they had no idea and he bolted. But at least hes being honest about it and they can get something for him, even if its an awful deal it will be something. And he won't be shitting on the whole city of Denver like Bron did to Cleveland. Like Boob-No-More said, Melo does in fact have the choice of where to play and hes letting the Nugz know hes going to exercise it when he is allowed to. Until then hes playing out the contract he signed and committed to.

What I loved was how bewildered Billy King was by his boss' move. It was almost like he didn't understand there was an alternative to taking endless grief and garbage from a "franchise" player like 'Melo. You can just say, "no more". Skinny Drago is right; it went on too long and was too public. There are other ways to build a team.

The Nets are now my second favorite team.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm disappointed that the deal fell apart. I'd love to see Carmelo playing for a team that isn't in the Northwest Division.

Denver didn't overplay their hand. Anthony played the LeBron hand. He wants to go to the best possible Knicks team, so he'll just go as a free agent in the Summer, so the Knicks don't give up anything. This will leave Denver like Cleveland.

Wait until Chris Paul joins Anthony and Stoudemire in NYC after next season (at the latest).
