Toronto would get Rudy Gay.

Memphis would get Calderon and Davis.

So odd grizz would do this. Makes them deep but Calderon is free agent this summer I read. Btw Woj is reporting this on twitter. Thoughts?

Its a fucking sweat deal for Memphis. Calderon will accept less after this season and the playoff atmosphere will only make him hungry to stay. Ed Davis is a stud PF that would be a great back-up to Zach. This screams improvement for Memphis. They get a player that can hit money shots from 3, plus a solid reserve for a player they can't rely on.

I still can't believe Toronto would accept this. Gay is totally overwhelming.

Gay puts up a lot of popcorn stats -- looks good, but not a lot of substance. He's inefficient, a mediocre defender, a bit of a black-hole and grossly overpaid. If the Grizzlies get Davis it probably makes Z-Bo expendable if Davis keeps improving. They'll need a wing at some point, but if they play their cards right (using Z-Bo in a trade) then they might come out of this whole thing younger, and primed for more playoff runs. In the short run it probably doesn't affect their wins and losses too much.

I always said that Gay is just a glorified Outlaw

This is huge win for the Grizz. They get out from an awful contract without having to take back any bad contracts. In fact they get a sold post player and audition a backup PG.

Why the Raptors do this is beyond me.

Because Bryan Colangelo is terrible at his job

This has Holinger written all over it. His formula hates Gay's game. Not that I blame him. I think Gay is a chucker.

Calderon would have been a great 6th man to go after this summer, now i bet he will re-sign with the Grizz with Gasol there.

Would be a nice luxury but probably a little too expensive for POR Brass' taste for a backup PG. I would have traded for him this year and taken the savings benefit when he expired though.

I don't watch them play much, but don't DeRozen and Gay play similar games? Both are averaging about 17 pts, 2 assists and 4-5 boards and a PER <15. Throw in Ross (who I guess now gets glued to the bench) and you have 3 wings that do roughly the same thing.

You are absolutely correct. I think I said it in another thread but TOR loves Chuckers.

Sounds like Calderon will not stay on grizz and will get moved eksewhere

We should get into this trade. Maybe offer up LMA so we can land Calderon...
[/jokes]
But seriously, getting Jose for scraps would be awesome if we could somehow swing it.

Well if there's one thing this team is over-flowing with, it's scraps.

Rudy Gay is a hollow "star".

He is not an exceptional enough scorer to make up for his lack of intangibles and contributions to team success - like defense.

He is a decent enough player, for sure, but he is paid a HUGE salary and doesn't earn it. There are other players without the big name that are just as productive for a team.

Memphis is a solid team and their core is Gasol - Zach - Conley.

Being in a small market they can't afford to grossly overpay for talent.

See ya Rudy!

Calderon is the type of guard this team needs off the bench. He can pass and shoot, allowing Lillard to play off the ball a little.

He's an EC, correct?

Not that they're giving up a ton to get him, but Toronto is just dumb. You start off the season terrible. Stroke of luck, Bargnani goes down, and you've played .500 ball with Davis as the starter. So now you're going to add Gay to your wing mix of DD and Ross? Can't wait to see the crap they trot out when Bargs is back for them.

Going online now: ESPN sources say Grizzlies and Raps have deal in place to swap Rudy Gay and Hamed Haddadi for Ed Davis and Jose

Third team not yet in stone but Pistons have had interest in Calderon all season & have two SFs to help MEM fill Gay void: Prince & Maggette

Just had to quote this, as this sums up my opinion of our star fairly well. With that said I would much rather have LMA than Rudy Gay.

Btw, Ed Davis is seriously underrated.

MEM will have the best (or close to) big rotation with Gasol/Randolph/Davis.

Funny you shold mention.

We, of course, had the #4 pick in that draft.

I wanted us to draft LaMarcus Aldridge (my #1). I was sure he would not be on the board at #4 and I didn't know if the team could move up (or if they even wanted to). Thanks to big mistakes by Toronto (Barganini) and Chicago (Thomas), LaMarcus could be had.

My backup choice for the #4 pick if LaMarcus was not available - Rudy Gay.

Austin Daye still has some promise. Pistons will have a lot of money available this year I take it?

Taking Tayshaun Prince back makes this trade a little less lopsided for the Grizz. He's making another 14 million over two years and putting up a 13 PER.
