(OT) looks like Gay to Toronto awaiting owner approval

Taking Tayshaun Prince back makes this trade a little less lopsided for the Grizz. He's making another 14 million over two years and putting up a 13 PER.

One thing Prince has is playoff experience; something I think the Griz would love to have. Another great thing about Prince is he is a facilitator instead of a chucker like Gay. Prince would do wonders for Memphis actually.

Only if a change of scenery rejuvenates his game. He's nothing like the player that won a championship anymore.

I think this change would revamp him. It's really hard when you have been soooo used to winning for so long, then go into draft lotto hell for most your prime years. You finally just give up. If he finds out that he is moved to a playoff team that is mainly a defensive minded team; that's a perfect situation for him.

I really like this trade for Memphis, they came out smelling like a rose. Detroit also did a nice job of shedding some money and finally getting a guard who can make Drummond and Monroe better. Toronto? Jesus, Bryan Colangelo is really bad at building a roster.

Man it must really suck to be gay right now. You went from being on a contending up and coming team; to probably the worst managed franchise in the east.

A deal for the Memphis Grizzlies to send Rudy Gay to the Toronto Raptors has been agreed upon, according to sources.

The Raptors will send out Jose Calderon and Ed Davis for Gay and Hamed Haddadi.

The Pistons will acquire Calderon, with the Grizzlies receiving Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye.

The Grizzlies will also receive a second round pick from the Raptors.

Toronto is likely to waive Haddadi following a buyout, reports Ken Berger of CBS Sports.

The Grizzlies will save $5.8 million this season and $26.4 million over three season before factoring in potential luxury tax ramifications.

It's a little odd that Detroit is starting to stockpile PGs like their GM is taking tips from Kahn, but I think Calderon is more of an expiring contract they plan on having walk than a long term guy for them... maybe someone we look at with our cap room, terrible defensively, but he sets guys up and the D has to respect his shot.

Knight and Stuckey really aren't point guards

I think you misspelled ever.

I'm not sure as to what the pistons are trying to do? For the last couple of years now they have been stock piling guys at the same positions.

It's a salary dump for Detoit. Well done!! They move forward with Drummond, Monroe, Knight, and Singler. Shedding Prince, Maggette, Daye and Bynum ($22M) at seasons end.

hollinger is now 2-0 in trades

If you take them in the order he did them then yes. However if he moved Gay first then did the CLE deal then I would have gave him a minus for that one. If he dealt Gay first he wouldn't have needed to give up some valuable bench pieces in the CLE shedding. IMO is better to have Speights and Ellington and just kept Calderon for the expiring money at the end of the year.

ARG! RR7 beat me to it but I expanded on it.

Had he done this one first, he wouldn't have needed to trade away a first and pieces for cap space in the other. That deal was terrible.

my take as well, he gave up a few decent bench guys and a #1 for cap relief....that he didnt need apparently

Toronto now has the contracts of Gay, Derozen, Fields, and Bargnani. Did BC read the details of the new CBA?

Not that they're giving up a ton to get him, but Toronto is just dumb. You start off the season terrible. Stroke of luck, Bargnani goes down, and you've played .500 ball with Davis as the starter. So now you're going to add Gay to your wing mix of DD and Ross? Can't wait to see the crap they trot out when Bargs is back for them.

Don't forget Alan Anderson who's played real well this year, too.

Good thing we signed Landry Fields to a $20-million contract. He's great at watching minimum salary Alan Anderson play in crunch time. Now he'll get to watch Rudy Gay and Alan Anderson play basketball.

Pic of Calderon leaving the arena today, after getting traded. Guy closest to the camera kind of looks like Colangelo in a way, but pretty impossible to tell with it that blurry.

Def looks like BC. Long shoes and stiff collar. That's Toronto sports reporter Rod Black and his camera man looking to get a word from him.

Supposedly Davis was devastated. Ripped his shirt off when he came out of the office and back to the dressing room, put a towel over his face and wept.

Should add that Calderon was also upset. Never been traded, spent his whole career in Toronto. At least he doesn't have to go far (or even move his family if he doesn't want to).

I'm so jealous of this deal. Calderon would have been a perfect back-up guard for us. I would have took Alan or Calderon.

Mags, how would you feel about going after Jarrett Jack as a free agent capable of playing as a back-up 1/2?
