OT: Marbury possibly to Celts

If you like him or not, the guy can still ball. He wasn't giving it his all in NYC lately! He would be a nice pick up for them. He's the kind of guy who's already made his bank and as long as he is surrounded by vets who are leaders, I think he could help them out.

I would if I was Boston. I think reuniting him with KG would make him play well. As much as I hate to say that. KG is the kind of person (or has become since they played in Minny together) that Steph would look up to. KG would bark at him and Steph would listen.

It's a risk. A risk that a team already set for a championship run normally doesn't take. Rondo is playing so well . . . even if Steph comes in with the right attitude (a big question if you ask most people) how does Rondo deal with the reduced role? Even if you bring SM off the bench, it's going to cut into Rondo's minutes and who plays in crunch time? You can't play Rondo, Steph, Allen, Pierce, & KG at the same time, can you?

It takes shots away from the Big 3 also. I don't like it. I don't see what value has to a team if he isn't scoring, and I don't think the C's need another scorer.

If I were the C's I would certainly think hard about this decision, but, in the end I think I might sign him. If I were the knicks however, there is no way I would let SM off with anything less than 3mil off. And honestly, I think I would demand an even steeper price from SM to let him walk.

Only if he gets bought out by the Knicks and signs with Boston for the vet minimum. I'd only do it because KG can keep him in check. He's got a lot of talent and something to offer on the court, but then again I don't see him taking time from Rondo. He'd backup the guard positions though.

I wonder if KG could get through to him. Or maybe make him cry. Whatever works.

Reminds me a bit of Portland bringing in Rod Strickland in 2000-01. He played okay for a reserve, but the move was criticized as hurting chemistry by messing with Stoudamire's head.

I remember that Pistons game back in 01'(Clyde's Jersey night)where we blew a big halftime lead and it was all down hill from there for the rest of the season.

This is hinging on whether Marbury accepts a buyout. Last time I heard he wasn't taking "a penny less".

But if I was Boston I wouldn't sign him just because I wouldn't want to disrupt chemistry, especially since this is a midseason move.

If they signed him, it'd be to the league minimum, right? So if there are any problems, it'd be real simple just to waive his ass. And there's the plus side of him being influenced enough by KG's insanity (or hopefully Ray Allen's class?) that he turns back into a solid player. Small risk, medium upside for the Celts.

Oh, I think Boston should sign him, yes indeed. If they can get any other headcases, I'm in favor of that too.

I think it would have more of a chance to be bad than good for them so I say go for it!

The Celtics are one of a few teams that don't need to worry about chemistry issues.

It's quite a gamble.

On the one hand, he can still ball and could be a real asset.

On the other hand, he's a pathological liar and a cancer.

As if we needed another reason to hate the Celtics.

On the other hand, it does give me a chance to resurface this video:

The perfect moron for a jerk-off team like the C's.

Why take the risk when Bonzi's available for $40,000?

I thought that was the drugs, not Rod?

Nah, he is a perennial loser, so I would say he fits your culture a little bit more.

Please. The C's bought a Championship for one year. Prior to that, you only made the playoffs four times since 1996. And the last time the C's were winning championships, you were probably soiling your Pampers.

Get off your high horse.

The Celtics have "bought" the same amount of championships in the last year as the Blazers have "won" in their entire existence.

Your point? The Blazers had the misfortune of an untimely injury to their star after 1977 that interrupted what was sure to be a dynasty in the making. They also had the misfortune of fielding some of their best teams when Michael Jordan was coming into his prime and when the Lakers were dominating with Shaq and Kobe.

Big deal. There are more teams in the league with one title or no titles than there are teams with multiples.

I'm so fucking sick of OT threads. Why the fuck can't people use the General NBA forum. This shit really ruins the Blazer forum.

Deleted. Personal attacks. I don't know what your problem is, but this is ridiculous.

That might be true... what IS true is that they are one of the few teams that, as they are presently constructed, have a very, very good chance of winning the title this year.

I guess I just don't see the upside for Boston. I'm normally a "get talent" and "chemistry is a myth" kinda guy, but in the case of the Celtics? They're so good and they have their roles so well defined that I just see this as a situation that might blow up in their faces without really seeing an upside to it...
