My friend who works for cbs sports just sent me an email that the trade is about to be finalized they're just working on the finishing touches.

Apparently the deal will be Humphries+Marion for Stackhouse

I know this isn't much of a source, but Ric Bucher apparently thinks it's almost done as well:

@KCandiano @Skullycapone Get some sleep. I was told Marion S&T would be done tomorrow at the earliest. No truth to Phx interest in Matrix.

Another WC Playoff team gets better.

everyone on real gm claims to have an inside source

If you didn't notice, Ric Bucher is actually a reliable source. (Semi at least ;))

A source at CBS sports reported to me via email that the Raptors and Mavs have agreed in principle to trade the following assets:

Stackhouse+2M+Wright+2nd in exchange for Marion+Banks

Salaries were not disclosed. Details will be made available to the public early tomorrow morning.

Seen this, from RealCrazyMods

And Dallas stays in mediocrity..wow, they kept a 37 yr old Kidd, signed Quinton Ross and Marcin Gortat, and now have traded Stack for Marion..I'd love to know Matrix's feelings about coming off of the bench. This team feels like the 02-03 Blazer teams..good enough for 6th in the West but not a threat whatsoever.

Great pickup for Dallas. This moves them above Denver with a legit shot at winning the conference. They aren't the favorites, but they are in the mix. Sounds like they will also add Gortat.

Kicked our butts in free agency while having $0 of cap space.

You can't be serious
Marion hasn't been good since the 06-07 season
Kidd is only getting worse
And they could lose Bass

I'd be very surprised if the Mavs don't match Bass. With Lee and Millsap getting little free agent interest Bass should sign for a reasonable amount.

Marion will get easy looks from Kidd and doesn't need to shoot, which has been a problem for him lately, as Dallas has plenty of shooters. He doesn't have to be the 2nd or 3rd best player as Miami and Toronto tried to make him, he can fill a little bit of everything versatile role that he flourished with in Phoenix. He is a solid defensive option at the 1, 2 or 3 allowing Kidd to have beneficial match-ups. The Mavs were a good rebounding team with decent defense, they'll be even better next year. With Kidd, Terry, Howard, Marion and Dirk offense won't be to shabby either.

Clearly better then Denver, behind a healthy Spurs team but ahead of a just as likely injured one.

Realgm says there's currently a snag in this. Toronto's going to have to work harder. Nothing is free.

I am not worried about this at all. This does not make Dallas any better. Stack is a better team player than Marion.

How come Marion is getting traded all over the place. A few years ago, he was the top fantasy player in the league. Phoenix hasn't been the same since he left. How has his stock dropped so much?

But Stackhouse didn't even play for them last year(10 games). Doesn't matter how much of a team player he is.

Because unlike you, it seems GMs watch games as opposed to just looking at stat sheets.

That doesn't answer the question at all. I watch the games. I was just making a comment that he was very good at many things and was a very effective player in Phoenix. How did his stock drop? Apparently you watch the games but are unable to answer the question. Go figure.

Marion's numbers were a product of the system he was in when in Phoenix, and his role within that system. That Phoenix team was run-and-gun. Marion would run around and Nash would find him when he got open. Or guys would sag into the middle leaving Marion some room to work. But in a slow, half-court offense, Marion is not at his best creating for himself.

True, but he was a pretty good defender and a decent outside shooter and obviously he was very valuable to Phoenix since they've sucked since he left. He should've stayed in Phoenix. He was a perfect match with Nash.

Marion benefited greatly by D'Antoni, and thought he could do the same things with other teams. But obviously, he's just not the same or that good anymore if Miami didn't want him and Toronto didn't want him. He's like when Michael Finley when he went to SA. Once a real good player, who was a first, second or third option, and now just a role player.

I wonder how much money Marion's going to make.

Marion has been hurt and unhappy with the losing teams that he's been on... of course, his lack of contributions were a big part of the losing in Miami and Toronto, but I expect him to bounce back with Dallas.

Of course, "bounce back" is relative. His PER was still reasonably good with both Miami and Toronto... it's not like it dipped down to Frye-like levels.

If he's healthy I think he is capable of making an impact, and I kinda laugh that people don't think he'll improve a team that started Antoine Wright, Gerald Green and Devean George a combined 82 games last year.

Ed O.

Marion will play much better with Kidd as his PG. This is a good fit IMO. If it actually happens then Dallas gets better. Portland now 5th in the west on paper.

Marion was a star before D'Antoni joined the Suns. I think Marion has declined due to injury and age. Granted, this would be an early age to decline, but his game is almost entirely predicated on his amazing athleticism and if injuries have sapped his explosiveness, his whole game is going to suffer.

Yeah, I agree he was good before D'Antoni. But I think D'Antoni's system took him, and maybe his ego, to another level that he probably couldn't fulfill. He's going to have to change his game up a bit since he can outjump or outrun every player anymore.
