I respect Cuban for always trying to get better. Dallas has somehow had their name mentioned with many players this summer (including superstars) while being over the cap.

I can just see Cuban trying every way possible to get involved in all kinds of deals . . . wonder if Toronto is pissed as they had a deal for Chandler already announced in the media and Jordon pulled out of that deal and instead does a deal with teh Mavs.

On paper the Mavs actually have some length and defense at the center position. Haywood, Chandelier, and Ajinca theoretically give them enough size to compete with the Lakers (and the Blazers) but we'll see how it works out for them.

I may be in the minority, but I like this deal for the Mavs. They dump Carrols salary, and add a good defensive player who tends to thrive when playing alongside a good PG. If it doesn't work out, they are only on the hook for 1 year.

Tyson Chandler is an expiring, so theoretically no. But I doubt there is a Chris Paul Sweepstakes right now.

Ajinca is the next Patrick O'Bryant. Dude is straight terrible. I also like this trade for the Mavs though.

Actually, Devin Harris played in 54 games that year, starting 4 of them, and averaged 22 minutes a game. So he didn't "lead" Dallas anywhere that year as a bench player during the season. He did start 15 of the 23 games he appeared in in the playoffs though.

Jason Terry was their starting PG, I think.

He is injury prone, and can't create anything for himself on offense. He needs a PG who will spoon-feed him the ball, or you are playing 4-on-5 on offense. A bit like Chris Dudley, but with more time spent on the injured list.

You doubt it because where there is smoke there is never fire?

Sorry. Paul can be had. The only issue is the price and the timing. If they Hornets don't COMPLETELY turn their franchise around, Paul could leave them with nothing. His value is likely to go down if they wait too long.

As for Dallas trading for Paul specifically, they use to have a contract that could result in instant savings for the Hornets. That was their best trade chip. Now they don't have their best trade chip. Plus, they don't have cheap young players like other teams, so creating a winning package will be very tough for them. Most likely it would have to be a 3 team, or multi-part trade.
