My beef with Rice is too often his schtick is over the top. He really knows hoops. Everyone once in a while, he'll drop the act and really drop some knowledge. I'd love to see him show more of his considerable basketball analytical ability.

He didn't say it jokingly. And, I said semi racist comments. And anytime you group any people together and say they are all... that is akin to racism. Isms are a learned behavior. If Mike Rice Jr. is making gay slurs he didn't just get that from his friends. You get it from your parents (and maybe your church). My son knows to treat everyone like he wants to be treated because that's what I taught him. Well who taught Jr. to be homophobic?

And HCP I don't much care if he's your friend. I have never been a fan of his and it's ok for me to say that.

Snapper was great. He had a bad rep from people who worked with him, but he was never afraid to call out the team when they were playing like crap. Rice was better on radio when he could tell a tall tale and didn't have the video to contradict him.

I don't much care what you think about me or what I said. I never called him racist. I said he makes semi racist statements and that isms are AKIN to racism. And it's TRUE that Homophobia is a learned behavior. So did he learn it from his church or his father? Because he got it from someone. And you know what man? Fuck you.. I didn't say shit to you or about you. Anyone can be a "great guy" in a work setting.

So, are any Blazer coaches going to the LGBT training? Or just the son of a broadcaster who works for the Blazers?
 
Why is Sr on trial again for what Jr did? One can speculate, but I am guessing no one on S2 was there when Jr was being raised or if it is any of our business. I am not an Sr. fan strictly for his game commentary and not for how he may/may not have raised his son.

As for Jr taking steps to improve himself, I do not see how it can be turned into anything negative. It is an uphill battle for him to get a job anywhere, but that is his problem.
 
C'mon, this is a sham. He's just checking a box I an attempt to get another job. This kind of shit I hate. It's like that jackhole of a mayor from San Diego who harassed women for years. Once he got caught, he went into "intensive therapy". What a crock.

I organize CME meetings for docs. ..we have to plan all of our events to address "cultural and linguistic competency"...biggest crock of shit ever. I went to these training courses. . they are just filled with people who want to ...uggh can't even describe

Because, parents are always absolutely responsible for everything their children eventually say, think, or believe. If Jr. is homophobic, then the only possible conclusion is that Sr. must have been as well.
 
For the record, I don't blame Mike Sr., whom I like.

Since the original discussion about Mike Jr. was posted on the main board with an OT, not in the OT forum, I figured the follow up should also go here. If people believe the thread should be moved entire to the OT forum I have no problem with that.

Who are we to judge from afar? As an employer I would not say "Hey, he went to a class and is now rehabilitated". However, if Jr. is truly trying to correct his wrong then good.
 
I'm not sure that just because a coach used insults to motivate his players, or make them mad so they might motivate themselves, or whatever, that it necessarily means the coach hates or fears or is "phobic" of gays. Insensitive maybe, but condemning the guy as "homophobic" seems like a stretch without more to go on.

Saying the F word is just like saying the N word to gay people. Are you saying that it's OK to say those things? People who are accepting of gays don't use those words. We know better. And most people know Homophobic is a general term used for people who are not accepting of gays. I'm sure you know that too.
 
Rice Jr was a lousy coach who was abusive to his players. Why are we nit-picking the details? Seems like a lot of smoke being blown around to obscure the fact that he screwed up and deserved to be fired.
