Taylor Swift dealt with this same crap recently. She linked a fan-made picture with lyrics of one of her songs on Instagram. The fan-made picture contained a fox, but that fox was actually copied by the fan from an actual piece of artwork that someone had made. The artist tried to go after Taylor Swift for linking the image.

In the current world of social media, I personally think going after someone for linking to a picture or retweeting or whatever, is going down a very dark rabbit hole. There's no money in Facebook. There's no money in Instagram. It's a sharing of ideas and imagery.

Yeah, everyone involved (including me) is being a douche. Dame basically said that because the photo was on the internet, attribution wasn't needed... which is just willfully ignorant.

Kinda similarly: A few years ago my daughter took some photographs of some classmates in several heart shaped poses for a breast cancer awareness art project they were working on. The finished photographs were featured at school in the display case, and the local newspaper did a feature story on them. The newspaper published pictures of the photos in the paper. The author of the piece named the students in the photo, but did not name my daughter, who was the artist who took and processed the photos. My daughter was crushed. The other students were credited. The journalist who wrote the article was credited. THE PHOTOGRAPHER WHO TOOK PHOTOGRAPHS OF MY DAUGHTER'S PHOTOGRAPHS AND PUT THEM IN THE PAPER WAS CREDITED. Again, my daughter was not. So, I wrote a nice (really) email to the author of the article explaining their oversight and explaining my daughter's disappointment. I received no response whatsoever.

I posted something about LMA about two years ago (during the off season). I made comments that were specific to his personality and things he had posted on twitter. About a week later he wrote an article basically paraphrasing it... true story. I know he reads these boards.
