It's still vet minimum. Pro-rated.

Ah, didn't understand what you meant. What are the odds that he gets a second 10-day deal? Anybody from the stands can commit 5 fouls in 11 minutes and not score.

If he doesn't get another 10 day deal, we'll know it was a total publicity stunt.

Being a Christian I think its embarrassing when Christians jump on any celebrities junk that claims Jesus. I find it equally embarrassing for gays to ride some celebrities jock just because they prefer the dong. It proves you yourself are insecure of your beliefs and need some famous name to make you feel better about yourself.

They can't offer anybody any more than vet minimum because they're massively over the cap and luxury tax threshold.

I don't know if he'll get a 2nd contract or not. What I do know is that when a team is hurting for a big man replacement due to injury/whatever, the list of names always includes his.

I was never a fan. I couldn't figure out why the nets played him so much and why the fans liked him so much. There was no measurable good effect from his play, it seemed. But you can't really measure defense and they were good at defense.

I don't think hiring someone for reasons other than their qualifications is generally a good thing, regardless of whatever political statement some people might want to read into it.

I didn't think he was worth a roster spot, but apparently the Nets do, and they should know what they need better than I do. So I congratulate the guy for extending his dream career. But I don't give a rusty rat's ass if he's gay or the first gay person to do something or whatever.

What's next, are left-handed people with flaming red hair from second marriages going to celebrate when we have our first red-headed step child left handed president?

Come to think of it, they might. ;)

Do you really think this is an apt comparison? Christians are the majority in society and sports (though not all are outspoken like Tebow). There is 1 openly gay male athlete playing in any of the major sports in the US.

This would be bigger news if Collins could actually play. The way it is, it is a mere token. No substance. It will be news when the first gay "player" actually "plays" in the NBA. Kingspeed could commit 5 fouls in 11 minutes.

What's your point? Who gives a shit what sort of decisions he's made in his personal life? It's like making a big stink about the first vegan to play football, I don't care.

And it is an apt comparison, both are lifted up by their like minded peers as some sort of hero, like their beliefs ride on whether or not this guy fails. I could give a rats ass about Tebow being a Christian, sure I'm glad if he is born again that he won't go to hell but he's not some hero of the faith for playing football any more than I am not a hero of the faith for being a security guard.

People seem really stuck on having "the first (insert ethnic or sexual orientation or gender) to do something". We saw it with Obama, but the fact that his race was a big deal to so many just proves we are still a bunch of racist idiots.

I can't tell from your quote if you're referring to Tebow or Collins. Please clarify. Are you referring to Tebow's choice to be Christian or Collins' "choice" to be gay?

0 points, 1 rebound, 11 minutes, 5 fouls

Gay or straight, he's still not a good player.

2 rebounds but you didn't watch the game. He set screens that led to scores. He took a charge. He had some tips out to his teammates. He played decent defense. He was very effective in helping them win the game.

Maybe their choice to make a big deal out of it?

Are you referring to Tebow or Collins? Tebow made a huge deal about his Christianity by genuflecting and pointing to heaven whenever he did something marginally competent on the field of play. I have never seen Jason Collins celebrating his gayness on the basketball court. In fact, he kept quiet about it all though college and the first 12 years of his NBA career. His own twin brother didn't even know he was gay until he came out last summer.

His butt taps aren't very open palm, just sayin'

It is interesting that Tebow's public flamboyance about his religion was much more overt than Collins' lack of flamboyance over his sexual preference. So much for stereotypes.

12 years and not one guy in the locker room complained about him being a molester. Imagine that!

I see what you are doing, and my rebuttal to the choice argument from a Christian perspective is probably different than you are used to. The bible clearly shows all are born in sin since Adams original sin. Therefore I believe someone can be born to have homosexual tendencies just as I was born a lying, murderous, adulterous person. We are getting into a theological debate fit for ot, but ill continue since the thread is mostly ot anyway. The bible clearly shows no sin is worse than another, that breaking one law breaks them all, so I don't partake in the gay bashing that's has been popular in some "churches." I have no problem saying homosexual acts are sin as it is backed with scripture but I don't find any pleasure in labeling it a worse sin than any sin I have ever committed. Christ calls us to love our neighbor despite their beliefs, and thus, I have a general love for anyone

I dont know kingspeed but I get the feeling he may be gay by this thread and hints I've seen on the board, it does not mean we can't be civil, actually he's one of my favorite posters because of his love for the blazers. I'm happy to have him on team homer. I just don't care what anyone's sexual orientation is just as I don't care what color anyone here's skin is?

Like I said, I was embarrassed for "Christians" who rode his jock. You aren't upsetting me with your Tebow bashing, I actually agree.

He was also a +8, third highest on his team.

That shows that a fan pulled from the stands could have a +8 in any given short stretch. He was probably nervous, and hasn't played this year, but he's been a bad NBA player for years. You can't teach size, though.

Just like in 12 years my guns haven't floated out of the closet and shot up a school, but you'd never guess they could show that kind of restraint in a crowd of liberals.

Jason Collins has a PER of -12 after his first game, and WS/48 of -0.250.

I don't want to turn this into an anti-Christian debate. I just wanted to comment that find the comment I quoted this refreshing - and that's a shame. I was raised Christian, and the area where I grew up had a 100% Christian demographic. As such, most of my family and friends are Christian, yet I am constantly shocked by their anti-gay, racist, etc. remarks. A couple members of my own family are some of the most bigoted people I have ever met. It's like they never even read the New Testament.

So, I applaud and agree with your sentiment above. It's refreshing to "meet" a Christian that actually understands and embraces Christ's teachings.

But, I also have a gay daughter, and believe me when I say, being gay was NOT a choice for her.

Actually, I wasn't bashing Tebow. If I was, I would have mentioned his QB Rating, not his religion. It just seems like a double standard that many Christians were ecstatic about his on field demonstrations, but just want Jason Collins to keep quiet about his sexual preference.

I agree 100% that's why I said everyone making a big deal over his religion was just as stupid as people making a big deal over jasons being gay and Obama having melanin

IMO if you have that much hate in your heart for a particular group of people you probably aren't a Christian. Anyone can say they believe in God, infact the bible's says Satan himself believes in God, but he's not a disciple of Christ, which would be the definition of Christian. The old testament law exists to condemn, it points to our need for atonement. We are all sinners, not just gays. I wish Christians would focus on their walk with god rather than forcing a walk on another. Which is why I suppose I'm annoyed when People lift up say the first openly gay to do such and such, I feel like it's forced down my throat just like before I was a Christian I felt like people tried to force god on me.

Also to add to this, if I were the first gay to say, walk on the moon. And everyone made a big to do about it, I'd be downright offended. It sounds like being gay was some sort of deformity that I had to conquer. I had gay cancer but I defeated all odds and walked on the moon anyway. It's just sad.

Jackie Robinson being the first black baseball player wasn't so much a victory for him, it was a testament to how shitty we are as a nation. being black isn't an obstacle, at least it shouldn't be, but racists everywhere try to make it an obstacle.

Scouting report on Jason Collins:
- Great penetrator
- Superb ball handler
- Takes it to the hole regularly
- Thrives in isolated man on man sets
- Excellent backdoor defender
- Enjoys to dribble before he shoots
- Solid stroke from outside
- Good awareness when double or triple teamed
- Loves to finish with a facial

Gee posts like this kind of make you wonder why people like Collins have not come out sooner, way to keep it classy.
