Here at the RG working this game for FOX. Locally it's tape delayed til like 9:30 I believe. Couple of these foreigners look tough!

Another reason to watch...... my girl Rebecca Haarlow is in the house!

This Biyumbo kid from Congo is a fucking beast!

Guys got like 7 blocks! bunch of dunks! Looks like a Seattle version of Shawn Kemp!

12/10/10 Check him out.... 9:30 on FSN errrrr ROOT!

Biyambo Mutombo is raw but looks like he can be a terror on defense in the NBA. Work your magic, Cho! :ghoti:

'Bebe' the 6'11" kid from Brazil looks like he's at least a half-decade away from making an impact in the NBA. He's nowhere near being ready.

Cool to see Andre, Rudy, Nic and Wallace at the game tonight.

Zaggs I yelled at you as you were walking down the back hallway around 10! You blew me off!

Some execs from the Eastern conference believe Biyambo is somewhere around 21-26.

Edit: My response below assumed you meant he'd be drafted somewhere between the 21st and 26th pick in the upcoming 2011 NBA draft. Upon rereading your post, it made me wonder if you are referring to his age. Please clarify.

Smoke screen. This kid will go in the lottery, probably top 10. Yeah, he's raw as hell, but his shot blocking instincts and athleticism are incredible. 4 days ago, draftexpress.com had him penciled in at #18. After his performance at the Nike Hoop Summit, they have moved him all the way up to #7! Word is out. This kid is improving rapidly and flying up the mock draft boards.

As I mentioned in one of the other draft threads, as a raw, inexperienced 18-year old he's averaging 5.1 REB and 2.3 BLK in only 17 MPG in the ACB League - probably the second best league in the world. That's 4.87 BLK/36. Since they started keeping blocked shot stats in 1973-74, only four players in NBA history have played at least 17MPG and average more than 4.87 BLK/48. Manute Bol did it 6 times, Mark Eaton 4, George Johnson, twice and Tree Rollins once.

Yes, I know it's not the NBA, but he's an 18-year old kid playing against grown men in the ACB - and he's so freaking raw, he will only get better with more exprience. And, he's one player whose draft position may actually be helped by the impending lockout. He's under contract for three more seasons with his ACB team, but has a very NBA friendly buyout (1 milion euros). So, a team can draft him this year, allow him to continue to play and gain experience in Europe during the lockout and then buy him out and bring over when they think he's ready. And, if he's picked high enough, he won't have to take a big pay cut to play in the NBA under the rookie scale contract (whatever that is post lockout) like international players picked in the late 20s that are locked into relatively low rookie scale contracts.

It will be really interesting to see where this kid goes in the draft and how he develops. He's come very far in a very short time and is a very intriguing prospect.

It's just pure speculation.

At 6-foot-9 and 243 pounds with an incredible 7-foot-7 wing span, Biyambo, from the Democratic Republic of Congo, has exploded onto the international basketball scene in two short years. He played this year for Europe's top league, ACB, in Spain, for Fuenlabrada. (Former Nuggets first-rounder NikolozTskitishvili played for Fuenlabrada last season.) But how old is he? Biyombo says he's 18, but as Sports Illustrated's Ian Thomsen wrote over the weekend, NBA scouts and executives aren't 100 percent sure, and Biyombo wouldn't talk about it when asked. "Question of the week here!," a team scouting director texted Sunday night. "No way to know for sure. I'm guessing he's 21 or 22." NBA.com

The Bismack Biyombo age "controversy":

"A half-dozen NBA scouts and executives told Sports Illustrated that they had concerns if he was older than his listed age of 18. Biyombo is physically more mature and also exhibited leadership skills to suggest he is older than his age."

Not exactly a smoking gun. He's a man child who is playing in the best league in Europe. There are plenty of other examples of 18-year olds who are/were more physically mature than average. And, given his professional experience, it's not unexpected that he would show more leadership skills than the high school kids he's playing against.

Like I said earlier, he reminds me of a young Shawn Kemp.

People speculated Mutombo was old, even when he wasn't. I think it's kind of a "them furriners are always up to something". Blame it on those middle-aged Koreans in the Little League World Series.

If Oden had not been from the US where his history was documented, nobody would have believed his age. People would have claimed he was 30 when entering the league.

Or 50!

I want to see his long-form Congan birth certificate.

BTW, thanks for posting this. We thought about attending the Nike Hoop Summit on Saturday. but my kids voted for a day at the coast instead and then we watched the game on TV Saturday night after we got back. So, we got to do both. I had no idea what ROOT was, or that I even had that channel, until your post. I've got FIOS with about 5 billion channels, most of which I've never heard of and never watch. So, thanks for working the game and posting the info.
