What does it mean that the arena's in a swamp? Is it sinking like quicksand? Does a moat surround it? Is it on a little island? Is it Louisiana marsh with Florida alligators? Or is it a drained, former English bog that is now a mudflat, with no plants? Give me a picture in words so I'll understand.
Seems like no matter how bare the ground is, someone driving on a road to the giant parking lot will see only pavement. Why does everyone complain the arena's in a swamp?
I think it is mostly metaphorical nowadays, the swamp has been drained/paved over for the most part. And yet the greater Secaucus area (where I've had the dubious pleasure of spending a few weeks over the years) still has the swampland feel. Not the Louisiana fertile swamp, more a vast tidal flat with sucking mud and very little vegetation above the waterline, and the smell of rotting things. That's metaphorically. If you had a scratch-n-sniff picture, it would look and smell like Beaverton.
