But there is a bigger problem with the Grizzlies' evaluation for candidates projected to be on the board at their 12th pick.

Team officials are routinely dealing with refusals to visit and workout cancellations by prospects who have expressed a desire not to play for the Grizzlies, according to multiple sources with knowledge of the situation.

Also, the Griz have been unable to negotiate a visit from Kentucky guard Eric Bledsoe, and Baylor forward Ekpe Udoh recently canceled his workout planned for Wednesday. Even Memphis native Elliot Williams has declined to commit to a meeting with the Griz, and he's projected to be drafted late in the first round.

Too bad. Memphis is kind of a shit hole, but in an endearing way. Great BBQ, great music and a low cost of living. Someone making $800K can live there like a king.

Somebody making 75,000 could live like a god damned king! They have very nice homes there in good neighborhoods for around $125,000!

Sounds like Tijuana

I know a nice city about three hours north that rookies and FA's would love to play in. And amazingly, they don't have an NBA team.....

As long as you avoid getting shot.

Memphis would not be my cup of tea (if you could even get a decent cup of tea there) but I can still think of places I'd less rather live in; Salt Lake City, Oklahoma City for example (although a friend tells me Salt Lake City is where the gay kids escape to when they run away from their small town Mormon families, but I'm too old for kids).

If John Amaechi is to be believed, SLC is pretty swinging! And doesn't SLC have a pretty liberal mayor?

We can beat that in Michigan, easy!

I have to say, the University of Memphis has the UGLIEST campus IN HISTORY. And Beale Street is like the French Quarter: i.e., a little bit of Disneyland surrounded by shittiness.

How bad is Memphis? Worse than Detroit?

Detroit and NOLA are big cities that make you feel like you are in a 3rd world country............... Memphis is just a smaller version but in a different way. The downtown is actually pretty clean and nice. Fed-Ex arena is beautiful and they have a great minor league baseball field, but that is it! Besides the 10 block radius of downtown it is a shit hole!

Elliot Williams hasn't done anything since his very first workout in San Antonio, and even declined interviews @ combine. He supposedly has a guarantee already.
