I think those posts should only be edited or deleted if the person who has been insulted requests it. When someone loses their temper and insults me in an online forum, I think it says more about them than me.

Was not asking for an edit. Agreed that he should own it. Just keep seeing the same poor judgment from him and takes away from the quality of the board.
 
I don't condone domestic violence nor do I condone cheating. Personally I could care less that Greg popped his old lady 3 times. She will be fine Greg will pay her off, she gets to be famous for a while and an advocate against domestic violence and Greg gets to be the bad guy. There is a lot more important shit in the world that should make the news than this.

So what important shit in the world do you think should be posted in a thread that was made to discuss Oden's arrest? You realize that we have an off topic section of this forum that is especially for that.

Rightfully so. He is the bad guy.

Yeah, there's also more important stuff in this world than the latest trade rumor or a game thread, but we discuss those things here, too.

The problem is, without real time editing, those comments often lead to escalation BEFORE they get edited/deleted. Then all that is left is the reaction to the post that started it all. That unfairly lets the original offender off the hook and make it look like the responder is the one being an unreasonable hot head.

We can only do the best we can. Not only have I seen the initial post edited, but often a few that followed, even within the bits quoting the original.

I don't care if I'm edited if I step over the line. I've told the mods this many times. It's not like having one post (once in a great while) on a message board is life altering, IMO.

Trades and games are positive and fun topics. Greg Oden is a colossal failure of a basketball player and does not deserve the recognition and attention his status as a pseudo celebrity generates.

In your opinion. Personally, I think this public shaming of Oden is for the greater good - especially if he does jail time for this. It will send a message to other athletes, and other men, in general, that it's not OK to use your wife/girlfriend as a punching bag. And, anything that deters further domestic violence is a good thing in my book.

Nobody is forcing you to read about Oden's arrest, but I'm glad others are seeing it and talking about it.

Never mind you have convinced me spread the word men don't beat your women and if you do don't turn yourself in. Women spread the word if you run around on your man be aware he might bust up your face.

I wish the young lady a speedy recovery from her physical and emotional injuries. If she decides to be an advocate for battered women, more power to her, but her first priority right now has to be her own recovery. I hope Oden decides to do what he needs to, after his jail time, to pick up his life and be a better person. Whether that be alcohol rehab, anger management, new career, whatever.

Although I'm sure PapaG appreciates you playing the surrogate victim card during his forced (yet again) absence, you may want to check the facts before you jump to any conclusions.

He was allowed back with specific terms on his forum participation. He violated those terms in multiple threads at the same time. He was unable to play by the rules (yet again) and was banned (yet again). He has proven time, and time again that he simply is unwilling to play by the rules that govern participation in this forum. How many times has he been banned from this forum? This is at least the third time. How many different user names has he had? At least 4 prolific ones (PapaG, BGrantFan, Yoda of the Moda, NewsSource). He has no one but himself to blame for his banning (yet again).

Do you not see a pattern here? It doesn't matter what he calls himself, the behavior never changes. His remarks to Fonz in the Robin Williams thread were unconscionable. The guy once called my 12-year daughter a whore (and that didn't even lead to a suspension, let alone one of his multiple bans). With PapaG EVERY thread is an argument and he MUST "win" every argument. He was banned due to HIS behavior (yet again), not mine, but frankly I'm glad he's gone (yet again) and hope he never comes back (yet again).

Why would I play the victim card for PapaG? The last time he was "banned" I said pretty much the same things you said in your last paragraph. I just don't understand how his Oden update/comments were the trigger for this latest kerfluffle. If he was gonged for his comments in the Robin Williams thread - that is a completely different discussion!

I don't know the exact reason he was banned (yet again), but I believe it was for his comments in the Robin Williams thread. I didn't even see that thread until this morning, well after he was banned, but his comments there were much worse and more ban worthy (IMHO) than anything he said in this thread. That's why I provided the link.

Most of the posts there are compassionate to him. Only one poster named Tualatin really hates him. Here are 2 good posts.

Hopefully Greg has enough dough for a decent lawyer. The definition of Battery Resulting in a Serious Injury:

In Indiana, the crime of battery causing serious bodily injury is committed by intentionally or knowingly touching another person in a rude, insolent, or angry manner that results in serious bodily injury to the victim. Serious bodily injury creates a substantial risk of death or causes serious and permanent disfigurement, unconsciousness, extreme pain, loss of a fetus, or permanent or lasting impairment of any part of the body. (Ind. Code Ann. § 35-41-1-25, 35-42-2-1.)

Somehow 3 stitches does not meet the criteria for risk of death or serious and permanent disfigurement (granted I still have a scar on the bridge of my nose from a cut I got as a baby but I can’t say its disfiguring). It looks like that felony is an extreme charge. Unless he knocked her out, there’s no way a competent lawyer would let that charge stick.

He also broke her nose, which the doctors have not been able to reset yet due to the swelling. I suppose that could lead to permanent disfigurement, but then I'm not a doctor, a lawyer or a thug, so I may not be up to date on the current legal definition of "permanent disfigurement".

She's going to get his whole salary from the Heat if not more and probably will settle out of court and cash in. As far as disfigurement, the crime scene photos of her are enough evidence for pretty severe penalty. This is a no win situation for Oden no matter how you look at it. It's glaringly apparent Greg Oden is not the sharpest pencil in the box. This is not why he got a college education and millions on a platter. It's his shame, he has to own it. Whole thing just pisses me off.
