Anybody here have a pet you named after an athlete? My wife wanted a dog 3 years ago and I said cool if I could name it. She now is the proud owner of a chocolate Lab named Barkley.......after my favorite basketball player growing up. Well as of around 4 this afternoon, I am the proud owner of a 12 week old, 1/2 chihuahua 1/2 Jack Russell terrier. His name.............wait for it.................. Rudy! I wanted to go with Boumtje Boumtje, but the wife was not down. Rudy Rudy Rudy!

Barkley and Rudy aren't that bad for dog names...very nice.

Boumtje (x2) wouldn't be bad for like....a parrot? (future investment for you)

I had a rat named Blazer... That's about it.

Nedderz is a good dog name

.....for the one and only - Nedzad Sinanovic

No pets, but I did name my wife Boumtje Boumtje.

I named my black lab in the 70's Elvin(Hayes)

I named 2 of my daughters hamsters, one Pudge(Rodriguez), the other Chipper(Jones)

LOL, I haven't had enough coffee. I misread that last one, thought you said you named your two daughters Pudge and Chipper. Haha. Talk about giving a girl a complex, calling her Pudge.

My year old Golden Retriever is named Lucas (we go with Luke for short, Lucas when he's out of control) after Maurice Lucas. I also was able to talk my wife into allowing my second daughters middle name to be Jordan. I thought Jordan would be a fine first name for a girl, but my wife disagreed.

We've got a chocolate lab with very large jowls named Maggie, after Margaret Thatcher. Although I often find myself singing, "Oh Maggie I wish I'd never seen your face" when she tears through a kid's shoe.

Just got a beta fish for my 3 year old for his birthday, plus two snails to help clean the tank. I might name one of the snails Nate McMillan.

Wow. A pet named after the iron maiden... that is pretty cool.

Maybe you can get a dog with rings around his eyes and call him John Major...

Our pets are usually named after food items - started with my wife's childhood pets - they had a Hershey and pretzel - we now have Kuggle.

I have a cat named Rudy, but not for Rudy Fernandez or any other athlete. He's named for Rudolf Nureyev (and yes, the female cat is Margot). My other male cat is Orlando but again not for any athlete, it's from Shakespeare's As You Like It.

2 cats
Bassy for Tefair
Telly for Martell

and one at my parents house named Oden

Perviously, had one named Bonzi...R.I.P.

Our cat is named Newman, because he is fat, neurotic, and overly obnoxious... not an athlete, but a personality at any rate (he also will not touch broccoli).

When I lived in Sac years ago I had a Pit named Bibby.

My dog's named Lucas and my baby son is named Nate. I briefly tried to talk my wife into also naming our son Lucas (figuring it'd be convenient to yell one name at the park and have 'em both come running), but it didn't take.

I have gone from the WWF theme (Cat named Jake the Snake) to the Muppets (A cat named Beaker) to now, where I am naming my pets after beer! My current cat is of course, named "Guiness".

A cat named my little kitten Spud after Spud Webb. By the time he was a fully grown 21 pound cat I realized I should have named him Shaq! :drumroll:
