Great NBA players don't = great basketball minds on the business side of things. MJ and Thomas are the epitome of this.

Larry Bird was a very good coach and is a mediocre GM. He really should get back into what he's good at.

I don't know, but I do know that Larry Brown has a history of being enamored with veterans, and he was there when fresh-faced Raja Bell broke into the NBA with Brown's Sixers in 2001. Perhaps they can rekindle some of the old magic. But with a PER that is down around nine -- an average NBA player is at 15 -- I won't be shocked if Bell fizzles in Charlotte, too.

Holy Crap! Jason Richardson to the Suns!!??!

I didn't see any thread about this but I just saw it on NBA.com. I think this makes the Suns much better and will thus make it harder for us to get into the playoffs. Why is no one talking about this? I assume it's old news if I'm only seeing it now.

Phoenix has even less depth, their old guys will again by tired at the end of the year, they lost their best perimeter defender, they pissed off Nash now for giving away his best friends (hence why he had a terrible game against LA tonight), it's a desperate quick fix for Phoenix before they just blow up the whole team.

J-Rich definitely makes them better. He was a huge reason the Warriors upset the Mavs in 07 and he personally beat the Cs in a game last season. He's a good player.

he's a good player, but that doesn't mean he's going to make a difference for their team. i don't view the suns any differently now that he's there.

he hurts them defensively, their only option worth mentioning off the bench inside is robin lopez, and his uptempo game doesn't fit with shaq at all. he is a good offensive player and is occasionally going to put up 30-40 points and is capable of winning them a few games all by himself but i still don't see where he improves the suns. and i have to wonder how amare feels about since he does want to be "the man" and the suns have brought in another guy who is going to take touches away from him on offense.

Good move by the Suns. I don't really understand this from the Bobcats' perspective.

I'm glad that Pritch didn't go after Richardson. I don't think he would fit well on this team.

I like this move for the Suns, but they still need to work on some depth.

Barbosa is a SG in that system, and isn't the backup PG. Nash doesn't play too much so they need to sign a vet backup PG. Then if they want to keep Robin Lopez as their backup big man, that is fine. But they may want to look for a vet bigman as well.

Nash, Richardson, Barnes, Amare, Shaq with a bench of Barbosa, Hill and Lopez isn't bad right now. Its a playoff team no doubt, just depends how Richardson meshes. I think some scoring from the perimeter will be nice for them.

New Orleans also got better getting a backup PG to play 15mpg. This is going to be very very hard to make the playoffs. There are 9 teams that may all win over 50 games.

I'd guess that Hill will be handling some of the backup Point duties. When healthy, which seems to be the case at this moment, he's more then capable. Barbosa will guard the PGs and play his scoring wing game on the other end.

I don't like the move as much for the Suns as some here seem to. While JR has always been able to fill up a box score and he gives them a good go option when the clock is winding down, he's also always been a very poor defender. It's not surprising that didn't mesh with coach Brown and his play the game the right way mantra. There were times in his Warrior days where I was completely stunned by Jason's lack of professionalism of even feigning interest of getting after it... I've seen him go into complete pout mode when he's not getting enough shots. I'd imagine that PHX will have Barnes and Hill covering the tougher wings of the league allowing him to cover spot up shooters, so they should be able to hide him effectively during the regular season. They'll probably make the playoffs, but they've now got some decent sized egos who all will want theirs. They should be exciting, but I don't see them as elite.

This is the kind of trade that looks good on paper, but raises the question, "How is everyone going to get their touches?" I have no idea if this is going to hurt or help the Suns, but my gut tells me it will be a push, and Kerr will working the unemployment lines by May.

I bet Nash is the next to go. He's been a major cancer this season. Complaining about the head coach, the system and now he's complaining about the GM and saying the team is a dark and gloomy place to be.

Nash isn't so happy about this deal:

The trading of Bell especially bothered Nash.

Nash already was having a tough time dealing with the changes brought on by the departure of coach Mike D'Antoni and the arrival of Terry Porter and his more deliberate style of play.

"I take my career home with me and I care about my teammates," Nash said. "When you lose two of your best friends on the team, it's hard. We're not only recreating chemistry, we're changing our style. But we've got lots of time to build."
