People keep talking about how cool it is, but why? It hasn't sped up the process at all. Instead of looking at footage from the TV trucks, they're looking at footage from New Jersey and it has taken about the same time. I don't get what the fuss is about. Seems like a waste of money.

I agree. Barrett keeps parroting the same thing whenever they use it.. But I don't see how it's helping at all. Seems to take more time than it used to actually.

Supposedly, the calls can be more definitive. I dunno

I am not allowed to chime in on this topic.

But go back last year and time how long it took ME to show the definitive look and how long it has taken the Jersey Boys. I can PROMISE you it is taking longer this season!

Its the evolution of replay. Eventually all the replays will be done there and that will free the ref's up some as well as take out any bias or bad reffing. Right now its a odd hybrid or both that seems to add to the process rather than helping.

I keep thinking this same thing.

The NFL is doing it so the NBA didn't want to be left out.

Also someone is putting a banner on the replay at games that says something like, "This is the same video the replay officials are looking at, this is cool!" except last night the fucking banner box was blocking the part that everyone was trying to see (the ball hitting Blake in the ass before rolling out of bounds.) I hate when the news does this. "Look at this car accident!" but all you can see is the antenna ball because KGW insists on putting their giant fucking banner over the picture.

It's awful. It takes five minutes to make a call that everyone at home can see clearly after 30 seconds. Not only that, I thought that clear path foul against Batum in the Sacramento game was insane - he was clearly between the man and the basket at the time of the foul, it wasn't even close and they still got it wrong.

The thing is, they say there is all this "new technology". Not at all. They are doing what we have done for years. The only difference is the camera signals have to be sent back to New Jersey. They have no different angles than we do.

This is what I dont get. How it can be so obviously to us at home and they still get it wrong quiet a bit. I get they are human and there is a margin of error but it hasnt been wrong way to much.

Here is the conspiracy theory angle. Are they telling the refs how to read the replay all the way from the east coast? Is there a reason both games had bad review calls that were not in favor of the Blazers?
I just love this stuff.....

Whenever they do this during a game the Moda should put on the big screen a video of a bunch of clowns piling into a car with a sign post pointing to New Jersey in the background.

Did the replays get the out of bounds play right? I was at the game and went on Blazer blackout mode after the loss so haven't heard the analysis of that call.

The feed goes to New Jersey because that's where the mafia does business.

Tough to tell? Did the ball hit Blake? You just can't be sure from the footage. But that was what they said and they overturned a call in favor of GS.

It is horrible. The littlest play takes forever to review.

Boo!!

Unfortunately they had completely blown two out of bounds calls that were clearly, both in real time and replayed on the jumbotron, off Golden State, but not reviewable because they didn't happen in the last two minutes.

According to this article:

"NBA president of basketball operations Rod Thorn told the Associated Press that replay times averaged about 49 seconds during preseason testing compared with an estimated 90 seconds last season."

I'm not buying it. So far, every call I've seen reviewed has taken several minutes.

BTW, all replay videos are available here:

http://official.nba.com/replay/archive/

I still don't see any conclusive proof the ball actually hit Blake.

They are also supposed to have explanations of all replay decisions available online, but I can't locate them.

This is pure awesomeness. Make it happen, HCP!

Considering we were incapable of inbounding a ball in those final few seconds, I don't think it mattered anyway.

See my detailed comments here.

Going small against GSW was a tactical mistake that played to their strength. We should have had Lopez in the game forcing them to go big with the slow footed Bogut. Send Lopez up to the elbow as a safety valve. Bogut isn't going to deny Lopez the ball 17 feet from the basket.

But yeah, we blew it way more than the refs. When you have the lead and the ball with 14 seconds left, you control your own destiny.

I had 3 great looks at it, and it was off Blake's hand.

You obviously had a better look than the one shown here:

Did anyone from New Jersey ask to see additional angles? Just curious, because nothing I see at the link above, nor anything I saw on the jumbotron in the arena (which is supposedly the same thing the officials are seeing) looked conclusive to me.

In any case, it sounds like they got it right, even if it took them forever. Better right and slow than fast and wrong...

I no longer have control over what the refs see like I used to, so I don't know what angles they were looking at. I was able to jog frame by frame and saw that it was clearly off Steve. They got this one right. Just took 5 minutes longer than it needed to.

Supposedly, if they don't have a conclusive angle, they can request additional angles from the TV trucks. Evidently, they didn't think that was necessary in this case. They got it right, so no argument there (other than with how long it took)

The NBA receives about 10 camera angles from the arena if I'm not mistaken. They also get our "program feed" or what leaves the truck. If I show and angle they either don't have or haven't looked at yet and it leaves our truck on program, they can also use that. I had heard it was really taking a long time around the league in recent years and they weren't happy with it. They wanted to streamline it. It just so happen that myself and the guy next to me have always had the replays ready before the refs even had asked for them, so when it came to replays coming out in Portland, we were VERY fast. A lot faster than what you are seeing this season. I'm sure they will speed things up after they get used to it.
