Interesting article about who has their numbers retired, who should have their numbers retired, and what numbers they should retire.

Couple thoughts:

1) Kobe should have #8 retired... not #24. That's just stupid.

2) MJ shouldn't have #23 retired in Miami... he didn't play there... and the fact that they have Dan Marino's #13 retired is absolutely dumb.

3) The Rockets shouldn't have retired Clyde's number... he was only there for like... 2 years? 3? Give me a break. I know he won a title with Houston, but that's really pushing it. Maybe we should retire Pippen's #33 here...

4) Retiring #6 for the fans is a complete gimmick and should not be done.

Not only that, don't forget Don Johnson and Gloria Estefan!

Even though our franchise catches flak for retiring too many numbers, I would hate to be a fan of a franchise that has more numbers retired for non-Heat players than former Heat players.

Miami is a really weird franchise...

Thanks to Pat Riley.

On this subject, just heard that Vlad Divac will be having his Sacramento #21 retired this week.

Vlade Divac....really?

I know Doug Christie and Jason Williams will be next!

Webber I could see.... or Mitch Richmond.... but Vlade? I don't know.... Jon Barry next!

Well actually it is 'retired' for us but not really...It is still useable, like how we have #1 retired for Larry Weinberg, but it can still be used..

And the Heat ovbiously did the same thing as us because #13 can still be used...Luther Head is currently #13 there..

They mentioned that in the article. It's still a gimmick

Well, Drexler moved to Houston when he was young and stayed there to play college ball, so I'm sure that had more than a little bit to do with the Rockets retiring his number. Plus, him wearing a Rockets jacket instead of a Blazer jacket during the "50 Greatest Players" introduction may have helped his cause in Houston.

Man that pissed a lot of people in Portland off.

I don't know about retiring numbers, but I can think of a couple of players (Miles, Damon) I would pay to see hoisted into the rafters! :ghoti:
