Re: Richard Jefferson- financial GENIUS

ah fuck, i pulled an ABM...

wow...turns 1/15 into 4/39. 24M more guaranteed dollars. Good move on his part, b/c if he has another year like this one he's probably not even going to get MLE for 2011-12

The Spurs' front office is rapidly losing their mojo.

Damn, $10 mil in year 3 when he's already declining, PLUS a player option for $11 mil more? Man.. the Spurs better be doing this as a favor for whoever Jefferson's agent is to get someone else.

People around here are bitching about us overpaying for Matthews, but he was a steal compared to this disgusting contract.

I'm suddenly feeling a whhhholllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllle lot better about Wes Matthews' deal.

i'm pretty sure jefferson declining his player option for this season helped save the spurs a lot of luxury tax dollars. in doing so, i'm sure they had an agreement in place that he'd be signed to a longer deal for considerable money. i also read somewhere that the final year is a player option but only partially guaranteed.

that better be loaded with bonus's and incentives.

agreed... wish I could give up $15 mil to gain another $24 mil

not my luck

well, if paying you 15 mil was going to cost your team 25 mil, they really are getting you for 3 more seasons at an additional cost of only 14 mil. so i can see how it would make sense for the spurs.

now the 10 mil luxury tax is entirely made up as i don't know what the actual figure would have been and it's entirely possible his contract could contribute them paying some amount of tax in the future but i don't think the contract is nearly as bad as people think when all factors are taken into account. the spurs aren't just trying to throw away a bunch of money to richard jefferson.
