Doesn't Morey know he's not trading for Dwight Howard? Why is he still stockpiling?

Maybe he's not stockpiling? Maybe he likes Delfino?

It's not just that their roster is so large, it's that the talent level is so low that it reminds you of the Portsmouth Invitational.

According to ESPN, their depth chart is projected as follows -

PG - Lin/Livingston/Fortson
SG - Martin/Douglas/Lamb/Forbes
SF - Parsons/(Delfino)/T.Jones/Simpson
PF - Patterson/Morris/White/Brockman/J. Johnson
C - Asik/Montiejunas/Harrellson/S. William/G. Smith

I'm not sure what Morey's strategy is, but it looks like he needs to be canned. It looks like he adopted an all-or-nothing strategy for Dwight or Bynum, and wound up with 'nothing.'

The worst thing is that none of those assets are really movable. Some of the players are movable because of their potential, but the Rockets will probably get low-balled to the point that it's not worth it for them.

I'm a real fan of some of the players on their roster though, like Donatas Montiejunas and Royce White, but overall, that's a Summer League roster outside of Kevin Martin.

Is there any other big name guy he could be trying to trade for?

That's the the problem. It seems like Morey put all of his eggs in one basket, in an attempt to either land Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum, and he came up empty, with a lot of prospects and mid-level talents still on the roster.

The only silver lining comes with Montiejunas, White, and Lamb. (Lamb being the all-or-nothing wild card in the mix given his style of play.)

wtf, damn i didn't know they had so many players. what's going to happen if right before the season they have more than 15?

they have tons of picks right? they must be trying to package a couple players each with a pick

Cut down day at the end of training camp should be pretty interesting. Some of these guys should be available on the waiver wire unless he's able to make a couple of 3-for-1 deals. My guess is that he might get one such deal done, but that's a lot of house cleaning left.

Yes, sir! there will be a few GMs waiting in the shadows.

I like his moves. Makes the Rockets bad enough to get a high lottery choice while building a young core. Also have salary flexibility to add free agents.

Livingston's contract for this year is only guaranteed for 1m.

uh what? He has to already cut six players.

Since Morey is all about getting small forwards we could offer Pavlovic for Patterson and Brockman. :P

Ooh, it's down to 20. They just waived ex-Knicks-cult-fave Josh Harrellson.

I hope he saved his money. Harrellson never belonged in the NBA, or any league in the first place. His roster spot was a clever hoax that Coach Cal played on New York's notoriously idiotic management.

Harrelson had a couple good games with the Knicks, which surprised me. I always thought he was a bum at Kentucky. Then I was watching him drain 3's in the league, I was surprised.

BUMP. The Rockets are going to have to waive at least three of the players listed in this boxscore. Who's it going to be? Is there anyone we'd want?

My guess: Shaun Livingston will be one of them, and we could certainly use him. And Kevin McHale is probably lobbying for Royce White to be another. (But that won't happen - yet.)

(Incidentally, Omer Asik is looking great for them. I'm not really surprised.)

Looks like Delfino was worth signing for this at least:

Now I look at the Spurs roster in that boxscore, I wouldn't be surprised if they cut Patty loose. I'd rather have him than Nolan, I'm sorry to say. Neither is a PG, and Nolan is taller, but Patty can at least bring the ball up the court safely.

Also: who the fuck is Wesley Witherspoon?

McHale is a tremendous big man coach. Any big man he gets will look 110% better than he would anywhere else.
