So, yesterday morning (just before 5:00 am EST) I was standing at the sink and I had a muscle spasm so intense, so painful, I literally saw stars and couldn't breathe... Now, 32 hours later, I'm still in agony... Ibuprofen did NOTHING, Tylenol did nothing... Alleve barely took the edge off... So, I have an appointment with the office to see them..... hope it's nothing serious, but I can barely move...

I guess while I'm there I can tell them the constant pain I've had in my feet since April 5th (currently trumped by my back) where we were at an ice skating party for my sons friend...

I guess I can also add on a discussion about getting snipped...

Hopefully they can do something about my back... :(

...hammer, where all are you having pain other than your feet?

Saw the thread title and thought this might be another Sams thread.

Hammer, ask for a Toradol injection. You will name your next child Totus in appreciation.

As someone who's had 16 back operations it sounds like a pinched nerve & it could also be siatica. (forgive the spelling). Let me know how you make out at the doctor. As far as the other thing, No f'king way.

...I got lucky when I ruptured the disc between S1 and L5...they gave me a steroid injection epidural that did the trick the first time...but after 3 weeks of agony I was ready to allow a third grader with a butter knife to open me up...just make the pain go away.
...surprisingly when I brought up surgery to my doctor he said "Nah. let's try this first". That's when he gave me the epidural...took about 2 days to fully take effect. That was about 10 years ago and though I can feel a little twinge every now and then, I've been pain free. I'm real careful about how I bend over and how I pick things up...and when I know I have a lot of work around the house to do or if I'm playing golf, I take a couple of Aleve beforehand...does the job for me.

A protruding disc

As someone who's had 11 disc's removed I've heard of a herniated disc, a ruptured disc & disc degeneration. But I've never heard of a PROTRUDING disc. This is new to me.

...rick, the doctor told me that virtually everyone over the age of 20 or so has bulging discs resulting from multiple years of compression of the vertebrae that are a natural occurrence caused by years of standing, sitting, running, lifting things, etc. Some people get away with it and never have a rupture,...some, like us, don't.

They think the back is just muscle spasms... Gave me a couple of muscle relaxants & told me to do stretches... hopefully the combo works....

The foot issue has been determined to be bilateral plantar faciaitis (spelling?)... trx is new shoes, gel heal cup inserts, & & exercises....

And began the process for getting snipped...

Oh, it's thoracic region... lower portion of rib cage....

Yes Bulging disc's I'm also familiar with but I'm not familiar with the term protruding disc? Not saying there isn't such a thing, I've just never heard of it.

I'd love that injection... but there will be no 4th... (see my previous comments)

I hope he didn't tell you to take the muscle relaxers (I'm assuming Baclofin) & exercise immediately. IMO take the muscle relaxers & do just that RELAX for a day or so. Then do some light stretching exercises. But don't push it.

...it's the same thing, just different terminology.

Beware, many peeps body's deal with meds differently. I'm highly allergic to Toradol. Tolectin too, both very strong powerful anti-inflammatories, both closed off my esophagus, made me itch like hell, bad rash, then made me puke, and see stars....get dizzier than hell too.....(no I wasn't on Hollywood Blvd.)....

Good luck.....Thorazic Fractures/pains are every bit as painful as blown out discs (in either region) or broken lumbars. Been a 17 mos. since I fracture T-12 and T-11, along with 3 ribs (lower cage), and they stiiilllll hurt like hell at times. Often can't tell if a kidney hurts, or the torn rotator cuff on the same side, or if its simply post trauma pain which can linger forever, and there's not a dang thing a doc can often do about it, other than work on it, then make it much worse.

don't whatever you do, let someone cut on you, if they want to install metal for discs....Kyphon is the new way to go, and has been for quite some time, (just prior to my time)....!

Disc protrusion is the correct term when people are talking about a slipped disc...

http://www.discprotrusion.info/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spinal_disc_herniation
Disc herniations are normally a further development of a previously existing disc "protrusion", a condition in which the outermost layers of the anulus fibrosus are still intact, but can bulge when the disc is under pressure. In contrast to a herniation, none of the nucleus pulposus escapes beyond the outer layers. Most minor herniations heal within several weeks. Anti-inflammatory treatments for pain associated with disc herniation, protrusion, bulge, or disc tear are generally effective. Severe herniations may not heal of their own accord and may require surgical intervention. The condition is widely referred to as a slipped disc, but this term is not medically accurate as the spinal discs are firmly attached between the vertebrae and cannot "slip".

No... told me it might make me sleepy... Took one last night, didn't make me sleepy, but then again, I took it right before bed... Took one today ONCE I GOT TO WORK and within half an hour I felt spacey.... maybe it was the not having any food in my system yet...

And it is Carisoprodol (Soma) not Baclofen...

Just take care of yourself Steve & don't push things. And I'll give you the same advise I give everyone, avoid surgery at all costs. If its something you can live with do just that.

yeah... I needed surgery for my carpal tunnel as I needed my hands to work... but I'd rather not have them touch my back... hoping the plantar fasciitis doesn't need it... and I'll be getting snipped... no way to do that without surgery...

Good luck my friend.

Good luck my friend.

Thank you... I've had bad muscle spasms before.... normally a brief spell on the muscle relaxants do the trick... this was more severe, but I'm liking these affects so far... muscle spasms and pain in the region is diminished...

BTW- Hammer, its good to see your traditional original "tagline" on your threads/posts again.....always liked that quote, speaks to the soul...

ie-

"When A Man Lies He Murders Some Part Of The World. These Are The Pale Deaths Which Men Miscall Their Lives. All This I Cannot Bear To Witness Any Longer. Cannot The Kingdom Of Salvation Take Me Home" Cliff Burton

No worries.... It was really an older quote, but very true
