Timberwolves guard/forward Shabazz Muhammad was sent home from the NBA’s annual Rookie Transition Program for a rules violation, according to multiple reports.

USA Today Sports reports that Muhammad, the No. 14 overall pick in June’s draft, had a “female guest” in his hotel room without the prior approval of the program’s administrative staff. That violation required his expulsion from the program and will reportedly incur a fine as well.

What's the world coming to when a young black millionaire can't even get some trim without the heavy hand of the man holding him down?!

He brought a girl to his room! <GASP!> I can't believe it!

Re: OT: Shabazz sent home from NBA’s Rookie Transition Program

There is time for work and there is time to play. If you can't take a week off from getting your tip wet, maybe you have some emotional problems.

So, "female guest" is the new PC term for hooker? The guy hasn't played a minute of NBA ball, but he's already living the lifestyle. And some folks said he wasn't NBA ready...

That's a huge reach.

The much more likely scenario is that he has problems following rules.

Or maybe hey's a perfectly normal (aka: horny) 20-year old male with a healthy sex drive...

Still, he could have used better judgement (again, typical 20-year old male). "without the prior approval of the program’s administrative staff." Sounds like if he would have just asked first, everything would have been OK.

They don't even say he didn't ask, they just say he didn't get approval. Maybe he asked and they said no. Maybe he didn't ask, but if he had, they would have said no.

Either way, Muhammad is a dumbshit.

It's accepted that being a great athlete (or great anything) requires discipline. Self discipline.

Well, yeah, if he would have asked, "Can I bring a hooker back to my room?" they would have said no, but I'm sure they make exceptions for guys who are married, engaged, or otherwise in a committed relationship. We don't really know anything about this "female guest", although if it would have been his wife or fiance, I doubt they would have sent him home.

I don't care at all about him having a woman up to his room. What I'd be worried about if I'm Minnesota is his judgement and also his ability to work in a team environment in general. When he pouted after a teammate hit the winning shot instead of him, I'm quite sure many NBA teams took him off of their first-round board.

As they say...

All's well (in Portland) that does NOT end well (in Minne).

Shabazz Muhammad sent home from NBA rookie program

USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt reports that Shabazz Muhammad was sent home from the NBA’s Rookie Transition Program for violation of a rule and bringing a female guest into his hotel room.

According to sources, Muhammad and nearly 50 other rookies were explicitly told not to bring guests into their hotel rooms unless they were otherwise approved by program administrators.

The four day orientation is intended to help rookies transition into the league through a series of seminars and guest speakers.

On the court, Muhammad’s scoring ability is undeniable. Off the court, however, Muhammad has been scrutinized for his faulty decision making.

The 14th overall pick in the draft will have to return to the program next summer to complete it.

Muhammad is not the first player to be excused from the orientation. In 2008, former Kansas teammates Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur were expelled from the program after they were caught with women and the scent of marijuana in their room. Both were fined $20,000 by the league.

It's pretty big news. Definitely worth repeating.

Small things like this mean absolutely nothing in a vacuum, where no other actions exist. The big problem comes when there are repeat offenses, Is this just one of a long string of events to come. There is something about Mohammed's personality that makes me fear this will be the case. Would it surprise any of us to read a story six years from now about how he went bankrupt and is out of the NBA? Then again he could be a superstar.

I think Shabazz is an idiot, but this is such a non-issue. Guy was just trying to get his tip wet.
