Since I normally don't get home until from work until around 6:30 or 7:00pm, I thought I'd try something different tomorrow. Rather than open a game cast or internet feed in a small window on my monitor at work tomorrow afternoon, and then get home just in time to miss the end of the game, I'm going to DVR it and watch it from start to finish in full HD on the big TV with my kids.

And, just so it seems "real", we have agreed that all of us are going to go out of our way to avoid all web sites, radio stations and TV channels that might announce the score of the game or the status of Roy and Camby (I know they both MIGHT play, but I haven't heard anything definitive on either). I want the whole thing to be a surprise and the experience to be just like watching it live.

I have the DVR set, we have the menu planned (barbecue pulled pork with red beans and rice, just like we have when we go to the games). We'll sit down for dinner around 6:30pm and turn the game on at precisely 7:00pm and watch it from start to finish. I'm going to log out of the forum in a couple minutes and won't be back until after we've finished watching the game.

The only reason I'm starting this thread is I plan to report back after we've watched the game - to see if we can successfully avoid any spoilers and enjoy the game as if we were watching it in real time. If it works, we'll probably do this for future East Coast games, too. I enjoy watching the games with my kids, and I think it will be much more fun if we don't know the outcome in advance.

I've done this a lot. Works for me. Hope it works for you and your family! It certainly makes it a lot more enjoyable.

I tried this last year. Came out of class to get in my car and go home and the radio came on. The one half-assed sports radio station in Eugene read off the score within the three seconds before I could reach the knob and turn it off. Don't let that happen to you.

You have to avoid internet entirely...if you have a yahoo page the game score will sometimes be on there.

Uh, I do this all the time. Living here on the East Coast, with a 3-hour time difference, it allows me to get to bed on time and watch the game later. Just last Monday, I watched the Cleveland game from two nights earlier, then immediately started watching the Chicago game, which was still in progress when I started watching the first quarter.

The beauty of this approach--and it's HUGE--is that you can fast-forward through the timeouts and commercials. Getting through halftime takes about 30 seconds! I regularly watch entire Blazer games in about an hour and 25 minutes.

I do this everyday, all year! Duck football games, NBA games. If I am at the Blazer game, and OKC is playing the Lakers...... I'll record it and try NOT to see or hear the score. Watch in bed that night. Stay away from facebook bro!

i do this every weekend while im at the club. i just stay away from all media. luckily theres no tv's in the club upstairs. ive done it for 5 years. its tough though on east coast when the game starts at 7est! I have to wait till 2:30 am to find out who won. brutal

Ha ha ha I do this all the time. I go get dinner somewhere where the game isn't on, let the game get to halftime or so, and then start after the fact and skip all those horrible commercials (and horrible half time show). Usually I am just catching up to the game right as it finishes, which is perfect.

OK, that was fun and it worked out well. I avoided all sports and news related web sites this afternoon, as did my kids. So, we got to watch the game with the same level of excitement as if it was happening live - but with the benefit of skipping over the commercials and halftime show. And, of course, we could also do our own replays if there was something we wanted to see again.

I'm sure we'll do this again in the future - especially for Friday evening East Coast games. The key is to avoid learning any spoilers ahead of time. I stayed off this forum all day, and when I got in the car this morning, I plugged an SD card full of music into my car stereo so I was guaranteed I wouldn't accidentally hear the score on the radio when I hopped in the car to head home from work.

I told the kids to stay off the sports sites, and any general or local news sites this afternoon and not to text or IM their friends during the game. It worked and we got to watch a closer than expected game that wasn't decided until less than 15 seconds left. It was fun.

Did any of you guys hear my music I used for my highlights coming into the 4th quarter....... a little RUSH thankyou!

I had the Toronto broadcast. Their color guy--Jay something or other--used to have Mike Rice, Jr. on his coaching staff.

So, which Rush tune? YYZ?

I would have never thought of using my DVR to record a game that I couldn't see live prior to this thread.

Thanks for the lengthy explanation on why/how this is done!

Yawn.... Gee, I wonder what snarky, smart ass comment I "missed" this time.

The one that you read, then decided to not comment on! I notice you never did address my post calling you out on completely missing my point of view. I imagine that is where my latest "ignore" from you originated.

BNM vs. PapaG is my favorite S2 feud ever.

Not sure if it really qualifies as a feud. I've had PapaG on ignore since before he was "threatened", slunk away, and transparently returned as BGrantfan. Once he went back to using his old PapaG username, the ignore function automatically kicked in again.

It's not really a feud. It's more like one person putting their index fingers in their ears and saying "neenerneenerneenerICan'tHearYou" after being called out on their latest bullshit post. I read everything. Ignore is for the weak, IMO.

I posted the PMs from BenDavis503 to me. If you want to call leaving after those very real threats slinking away, so be it. Luckily, that guy is in jail, where he belongs.

So ... anybody else received a PM like this from a fellow "Blazer fan" who has spent time in jail?

Keep pushing it buddy. I will make you my obsession.

It has already begun. I have made contacts to start finding out who you are and where you live. You understand you are ALL over the internet? Your footprint is EVERYWHERE.

Just wait pal. I am going to make you wish you never opened your fucking mouth.

Leaving the board and contacting my attorney seemed prudent at that point. Now that the guy is neutered, I came back. A few dumbshits think I own a vegan deli, but they seem harmless.

I have no idea what he's saying, but based on past history, and the increasing frequency of his posts, I'm guessing this thread, which had nothing to do with him, is now suddenly all about PapaG.

That's his standard MO - stir the shit and then play the victim. Doesn't matter what username he's posting under, the pattern is ALWAYS the same. That's why he's on ignore. I come here to talk about Blazers basketball, not feed the fragile ego of someone so starved for attention they have to make themselves the subject of every thread they participate in.

I started a simple OT thread about my viewing plans with my kids for tonight's game. It had nothing to do with him, but now here he is, no doubt trying to hijack this thread and make it all about him. How fucking predictable (and pathetic).

back on topic...the facebook thing was the one that burned me a couple of times, and it seems to happen only when something big happens (come-from-behind win, choking away a loss, etc). I generally don't drive later at night, but if I do I keep the sports radio off.

If I start an hour and 5 minutes in (8:05 for a 7pm program start time) I generally finish up even. But you have to put in the "record extra 30 minutes" in case it comes to OT or it's a free throw contest at the end.

My youngest daughter is the biggest chance a spoiler will be revealed. She's usually constantly texting and IMing her BFFs during Blazers games. And, she has the NBA Game Time app installed on her Android tablet. So, she had to be extra careful this afternoon.

I'm offended. I miss punking the vegan deli entrepeneur. Maybe next week or something, if I actually try he'll have another meltdown and switch screenames for several months and flatout deny it. Only to come back with the old handle like nothing happened.

Ahhhhh its fun to own people.

Used to do this all the time. Always follow on my phone if i'm busy during a game these days.
